I am currently looking for a rifle (Since I'm two years shy of being 21, I am obviously not mature enough to own a handgun ). I have been interested in shooting most of my life. I have been meaning to get one for a while, and have decided that I want to get one in the semi-near future. As this board is populated with many who are more knowledgable about firearms than the people around me in real life are, I decided I might as well post a question here.
I am mainly looking for a cheap and reliable firearm. Since I am merely a poor college student, I can't shell out $4000 for one of the super rifles which seem to find their way into computer games. I am simply looking for a cheap ($500 - $900) gun which will pretty much get me used to shooting. I would also prefer something that shoots cheap ammunition.
I have fired .22, .30-06 rifles as well as various blackpowder varieties (not too shabbily with all of them, I might add ), and I really liked the power of the .30-06, so I'd like something about that caliber (maybe that, or 7.62, and whatever that equivalent in America is, and even more possibly .223, but I really like the power and kick of the more powerful rifles).
I have no fear that I shall be sent in the right direction. Correct?
