So is Fallout3 a decent buy or what?

you all know I love my UT type games, but I'm also a fan of stuff like Vampire the Masquerade: Bloodlines. (wish that game had had the proper amount of time in the oven before it was released), loved Morrowind, even kind of liked Might and Magic: Dark Messiah. Also loved the first STALKER game,.. just wish that game had it together more on a technical level,.. the 2nd one I bought but haven't played it much due to the craptastical beginning, and it's severe shortcomings in the optimization department. (It doesn't look much better than the original but it brings my system to its knees being a non-vista/non-DX10 system.)

So, how do you guys think Fallout 3 stands up in the areas of good game engine optimization, overall options/customization, and immersion ?

I'm wondering if Stealth-heavy gameplay is possible in Fallout3 too. Just curious really as all in all I'm looking for a good, open ended Stealthy type game to relax with.

Fallout 3 is an excellent game. It's not without its technical issues (I've only experience a handful of crashes in the maaaaaaaaany hours I've spent playing it), but all in all it really plays well and the story and environment are engaging.

I thought I wasn't going to like Fallout 3, but I was definitely wrong. I'm not really a fan of turn-based things or anything involving endless secret hidden dice rolls, but the VATS thing is surprisingly satisfying to use, and you can always just avoid it and aim yourself. Obviously the dice-rolling is still going on, but it does a good job of seeming like it's not.

If that sounds like your thing then you might well enjoy this game. It's certainly got immersion in spades, although since everything's all post-apocalyptic and exploded you might not find that to be on the same level as Morrowind.
