Domination UT!!!

This is a call to action to anyone who enjoys the Domination game type for UT.

Where are you guys???
Domination is one of the greatest UT experiences there is, yet I just went on the UT server browser and I see there are 9 players in all the world playing Domination at this time. Come on! Domination is amazing. Try it, you will probably like it.

Are you good at Domination, do you enjoy it more than the other game types? Well, have you thought about starting a clan?? The Domination clan community is strong and closely knit. However, it could use some fresh blood, and some growth! I'm not going to come on here and try to recruit for my own clan (although I will give our URL along with some other DOM clans' URLs), rather, I encourage people to try out Domination more, to get to know some of the clan members who partake in awesome DOM clan matches, to see about joining a DOM clan, or starting your own, and to pay more attention to Domination in the ClanBase and ProvingGrounds ladders. Personally, I love Domination. CTF is excellent, TDM has its fine points, but I always return to my friends on the public DOM servers.

Why not come check out some of the more prominent clans out there? Here are some URLs for you, don't hesitate to stop by and sign the guestbooks or post to the message boards. About 95% of the DOM clan members I have met have been really nice, really sporting players. And some of the greatest talent in all of UT resides right here in these clans and their collective community...

I still have not gone online so I don't know what are the different mods for Unreal.

Besides, anyone care to share which mod they most prefer? Be it CTF or DM or anything else?

Hey Judas!

You are welcome. Fortunately, Domination is something you can enjoy even without going online (well, unless you only have the demo of UT). It's built in to the game. You will encounter it if you play the little single player Tournament ladder leading up to the showdown with Xan. If you haven't gone through that, I HIGHLY recommend you do, it's a lot of fun, great practice, and is very rewarding. Alternately, you can access Domination maps by going to "Start Practice Session" and changing the game type.

I enjoy Domination the most! Capture the Flag can be exceptionally excellent as well. Deathmatch is only fun for me any more if I can play against very skilled opponents. Of course, I'm looking forward to investing quite a bit of time in one or more of the following one of these days (when they're more complete): StrikeForce, Infiltration, TacticalOps, ActionUT, or UTFortress. You can read all about those on PlanetUnreal proper, the left side has a long list of links, including those for the mods I mentioned.

Thx for the major props Entropica! 9 ppl playing DOM at a time is really lame sorry...with 30something DOM clans enrolled at clanbase and tons of clanless ones playing... 9 people doesn't say much for our lonely game.

PlanetUnreal Rocks...and just estimating how many people might see our posts has gotta have some production. Nice idea Entropica.

I'm a CTF kinda guy myself, but I've found that Domination games can be some of the most intense around (especially when the scores are close).

I played a lot of domination when I first started playing UT. But now I almost only play CTF. Domination is still lots of fun. But for some reason the domination players seem lamer and less skilled than the CTF players. I'm not saying any of you are. You don't seem like that. And your post, entropica, was really great

So I would like to see more sportmanship and better players before I play domination. I stop by for a game every now and then. But I always turn back to CTF after a while.

It has the potential to become one of the best game types though. The only thing it needs is an extremely high score limit. Those sissy 200 score limits just don't last long enough. I figure a game should be somewhere between 15 and 20 minutes. Just like CTF

I used to play a reasonable bit of DOM... was pretty fun, but I guess I've moved away from it recently to more DM or CTF. Perhaps I should give it a go again. I'll check out some websites etc.

Hehe - I just tried out for your clan Entropica, even though no one knew it. I had my first DOM games in a couple of months and I played a few games against WarHammer and one on the same team as AlbinoBoy. I think they might remember me too <grin>

Great to see this topic rolling along. I find DOM a great mod to UT and it can have some fierce, hectic battles that require some real teamwork if played seriously. I also agree that you need fairly high scoring games to see who the true winner is as the momentum can shift many times in a game. Hope to see more people add to this string and more of you out on the Dom killing fields. Get to know some of the clans and members that Entropica{KS} mentioned. I've found them to be great guys that are just plain fun to associate with and are willing to teach you plenty about the mod.

Wow, a little bit o'response from the PuF'ers. that's cool, cause I also believe that DOM is one of the best mods to play.

And yeah, I've been avoiding it lately too cause there's no-one online to play, and sorry the bots are no longer challenging with team-play mods

If anyone would like to check out a good DOM game, you can goto http://www.provinggrounds.com news section and check out an 'Aftermath' article for a match write-up, screen-shots and a demo to boot!

Check out the demo, it shows how intense a good DOM game can be, and that you need not be a long-time DOMer to enjoy it. As it was |c|'s first DOM match, they didn't even practice??? much and gave DRD quite a handful. (I'm in DRD btw)

Also, clan games like that one, are usually quite a bit more intense and fun than your regular public server, so if you can have fun there, and are in a clan or wanna be in one, then you should consider DOM!

I was so happy to see another DOM clan in competition until Roos told me they were just doing that for fun But at the same time, they're still playing on the ladder and now kicking A$$! They already beat one of the top DOM clans handily, and with a few more games will be challenging the |BH| boys for top spot.

Competition is good, and DOM needs more of it! I hope this thread sparks more interest.

i would play ut domination but i think its lame you just capture the zone w/o having to do anything, you just run over it. The way it SHOULD be done ie TFC-style, where there are 3 or so flags at your "base" which respawn every 30 seconds or so. Anyway, in order to capture a zone in TFC you need to place a flag at the point. If there was a mod or epic would change DOM to play like that, i would prollly be a DOM addict

Switch[UF], a couple interesting points! Thanks. I think the general lameness you notice is a direct result of Domination just not being as popular as CTF and DM. It's true. I'm trying to reverse that a little. Those who study Domination and practice as a team can be devestatingly skilled. Guys like µÿþÊrÎön©<ЮÐ> and -=AA=-Ð|ø|M|í|Ñ|ð can be just as well-known, highly skilled, and dedicated as any CTFer or DMer. But you're probably right about the median skill level on public DOM servers, and that is one of the trends I'd like to do away with if I can in any small way.

Second, you may be right about the point limit thing. Maybe we need big long epics in this game too We need a few more competent (read:fast and well-administered) servers for DOM too!

Have you seen some of the AA or DRD members play?
I'm not sure what you mean when you say "you just capture the zone w/o having to do anything, you just run over it". OK; that's like saying in CTF, all you do is run over their flag and then run over your flag. Hmmm?

Capturing and keeping are too vastly different things. I hope you recognize that there are usually opposing team members who also wish to capture the control point you have so easily captured. Just as in CTF there is the small matter of actually making it back TO your flag before you can score. They are just two different conundrums, CTF and DOM, two ways to set up some VERY basic rules using the UT engine and then sit back and watch the extremely complex strategies and tactics that enterprising players everywhere are able to develop.

But while we're here, have you heard of the mutator Dominator? It sort of melds CTF and DOM together. Might try that if you're really not into Domination itself for some strange reason.

By the way I have watched the |C| vs. <ЮÐ> match (research, you know). It was a lot of fun to watch, and |C| is quite talented. Hope they continue in the DOM ladders. It would be good to see someone knock the BoilerHeadz outta first!
