Do you buy shareware?

  • Two Factor Authentication is now available on BeyondUnreal Forums. To configure it, visit your Profile and look for the "Two Step Verification" option on the left side. We can send codes via email (may be slower) or you can set up any TOTP Authenticator app on your phone (Authy, Google Authenticator, etc) to deliver codes. It is highly recommended that you configure this to keep your account safe.

Wank, I wish some "opportunist" would go into your house and Jack everthing in it. You'd bitch and cry and whine about the injustice of it all, but you would have no right. You see, that is why society can't function if everyone beleived the way you do. This has nothing to do with morals either. The thing of it is, is that if you want to pirate software, fine. Just freakin admit it for what it is. Stealing. But it makes me sick to hear all the ridiculous justification. You shout out your stupidity when you can't make the connection. I have one copy of pirated software, and I have alot of software. I stole it, and it was wrong. Is that so hard?

I download, and try alot of shareware not to mention freeware, but when it comes down to purchasing it that becomes the problem! I don't trust giving out my credit card # over the net for reasons of getting ripped off...

I have purchased stuff over the net before, and have been screwed by buying something , and never getting it... So I guess these people who really want to sell their products are going to have to be upfront about their purchasing policies so that they can guarente a safe payment method...

I download full versions of programs only to see how much interest I have in them. Last game I d/led then bought was Madden 2K1. Otherwise they're gone from my computer in no more than a month.

Some software is normally not in the price range of the average american. I have plenty of that software which I obtained through shal we say unconventional means.
Some of the titles are Cold Fusion, Adobe Photoshop, MS VS6, PowerBuilder, etc. Those are just several titles, it totals over USD 15,000 I think.

The software that I do buy includes games (such as UT, Quake3, Soldier of Fortune, AoE 2, DeusEx, etc) and things that I believe are both worth the price asked for and I am able to afford. I wouldn't pay USD 70 for something that I could make in 2 minutes with VC++ myself, which is so often the case.

This is why I throw myself, perhaps a little to enthusiastically, behind open-sourced software.

A prime example is with Adobe Photoshop. Frankly, there's no way I could afford the $629 USD listed price. I could warez a copy of the program, or I could do what I do now, and that's use a completely free copy of the Gimp (Windows Version). Yes, Photoshop has features that are unavailable in the Gimp, but nearly all of these features are only used by professionals. And if I was professionally using Photoshop, I better damn well be able to afford it. For your home user, however, the Gimp is the right program at the right price.

There's nothing like using a guilt-free system.

I've paid for shareware apps on several occasions. In all honesty, I've purchased only a handful of all my other software. My view is that software is worth to me what I can afford to pay. I can't afford to pay for the ever changing MS OS, or the $600 graphics app, and they surely won't accept what I can afford, so I'll download it and cry myself to sleep ;)

I wholeheartedly support shareware authors or any other software company that makes useful products at affordable prices.
