This is exactly what happened before UT2k3/4 were released. People psoted their dieas. their fears, their wants adn their desires aswell as their wild speculations on the "featuers that apic had mentioned but not clarrified specifically. (SUch as the Karma physics. People posted for ages assuming that teh physics would apply to everything from a players arm to a bullet only to discover it applied only to a corpse.)

Basically, get over it. This is a forum for a game that doesn't exist yet, it is bound to be like this and it's got flames in and spam just like any other forum on the face of the planet. So what?

I know something you don't know.

Shadowdragon is right. There were so many hilarious threads on the ina boards back when ut2 was in the making (before they named it .. ugh.. ut2003..) Yeah, already mentioned that. BUT, I don't mind repeating myself! sometimes.

Unlike most of you, I was introduced to Unreal when UT2k4 came out and I loved it. I never played UT99 and I most likely won't for a long time. Think about how a game is good, not how other games are better.

Don't flame to this post. This is my opinion. If this starts a bad disscusion I will simply delete this post.

Soooo...I'm not sure why you won't give UT a shot...
So what, if it's 6 years old? It ranks among the top FPS of all time ^_^ Heck, it can be listed in a hall of fame for shooters.

Seems to me that's one good reason to give UT a try ;O)

There is, though, quite a difference between playing Unreal and UT.

But if you won't give it a try, hey ok with me.

I wouldn't mind playing UT again, but it's just not as pretty anymore...

I don't feel like re-installing my Voodoo5.

Yeah, you're right.

UT maps

Times have changed. Mapping standard has raised, maps have become more detailed and beautiful than ever.
...At least that's the idea :D

Lol, first time I saw shots of that pack I thought it was UT04.

I suppose the old engine is, to some degree anyway, scalable out as far as current processors/ GFX cards will allow...

I think you misunderstood my point.

It has little to do with the game, and everything to do with what API you run it in. My silly geforce card likes GL, but the GL support isn't that great, so the rendering of even the prettiest of imagery won't be the same. D3D alsways looked like ass in my opinion, and even though not desinged as well for it, my card would be plenty big enough to run it at decent rates. Still not near as good of image quality though.

Have you ever played UT on a Voodoo? The best card you are able to run it on, for frame rates and image quality is a Voodoo5. I doubt a x800, or 6800GT (which I am about to own) would even look quite as good, simply because they don't run glide.

Run it glide, on a Voodoo5 with the S3 textures installed, and the stock maps in that game are still pretty IMO. Also, the amount of depth everything has @250 frames is awesome. I guess though, if the reason you still play UT is because you can run it with your limited hardware, I doubt you were ever at liberty to do so. Sorry about your luck.

Yes, I've played both Unreal and UT on a voodoo banshee. Was a nice card 6-7 years ago...

If you have a geforce card, you can use a glide wrapper to emulate the glide effect ? Might improve things?

I think running UT in on a geforce/Ati card in Opengl with S3tc textures installed might also deliver satisfying results :O)

Check this thread btw, for running UT on newer systems: Tweak UT graphics/sound to the max

I didn't misunderstand you.

Besides, I like pimping UT's new style of levels.

Well, even if the wrapper works good, it would seem kinda silly for me to lean on the software, when I have the hardware to do it.

...and the game is dated. Pings are to the point now where hit-scan is unbalanced in 2kx, and UT suffered the same fate in late life. Now, UT's problem would seem 2 fold what 2kx's is like.

If somone wrote a mutator to re-balance the weapons for LAN, it might be worth a shot.... even if it was just like a 2kx balanced emulation mutator... Unfortunatley, I doubt too many people would know enough about weapon balance to make the proper adjustments for the old player scaling with the new weapons etc, etc.

That really depends one what you’re referring to.

Yes Epic is the king in engine development and happened to make two of the best games in the world at the time of Unreal v1 and original UT.

However, there were people such as myself who liked the original ideas and dreamed of the day when newer technologies would enhance the realness of the already perfect ideas and story lines.

For example the original Unreal game story line was amazing, you were in this distant world in the middle of know were: The back ground music used in that game is what enhanced this feeling so much because it was creepy and eerie. Not like this techno crap used today.
the music in Unreal-1 is what is known as New age music by the way.

Anyway,
So here we are with Unreal II, on the same plant.
Yes the engine looks way better but where the hell are the old stone like castles and the gothic mood the Epic’s amazing and original team captured?
Simple, Epic got rid of all the old developers and hired in new ones.
So there ya go. $$$

Give me a break dude, they lost it long time ago.
The new Unreal v2 looked like a cartoon, Half Life2 blow it out of the water. Speaking of water:

Wasn't half life 2 released, like, years after Unreal 2?

is this an attempt to have a highly irrelevant HL vs Unreal flamewar?

Jeez why don't you just say ->Sachiel<- when you talk about spammers (come on, my posts are productive for the most part, especially my polls and threads. I mean yeah I got a little angry when you called me a post-count buffing newbie. But besides the -AEnubis- hating posts I had good ideas, I think even you would agree with me on hat one -AEnubis-.)

Anyway, I liked UT2004 much more than UT99. Not because of graphics, but because of the new style, the massive change. Change is good so why does everyone want to keep the same game and just give it a graphical enhancement. If you guys still want to play UT99 then go ahead, don't even get UT2007, but if you want to play a DIFFERENT game with gameplay changes, (not just graphics) then get UT2007.

LOL the bitching, you guys are crazy......FLAMEWARS ARE AWESOME, I like a good argument. Steyr the guy i argued with at the end of the stupid FLAK CANNON FUNCTIONALITY OVER LOOKS thread (which was the best thread that i have ever seen due to the heated discussion) Ended his "speech" by saying "I like to Argue, Sue me"

THIS is what a forum is all about, although my opinion about most topics is pretty much the same as yours ChampionHyena, I do except the bitching of everyone on this "Dead Forum" was it -AEnubis- and i believe that this will continue until the release of UT2007 where everyone will be amazed by the creativity of EPIC, whether negatively or positively remains to be seen. Besides, opinions varry and what some people don't like, others will like. But somewhere beneath the bitching this forum might help EPIC with some ideas and if we shutup the product might not be as inventive and amazing as UT2004 was when it came out.

Don't compare the graphics of Unreal 2 to the greaphics of halflife 2, halflife 2 was released MUCH later than Unreal 2.

Bleh, I could name a couple others worse then you, and you haven't been that bad lately. No need to name names though, people have been banned (and recently) for repeated posting, that wasn't even spammy, but just non-contributive. Good admins and moderators here.

I'm all for new features, but there is also this element of "if it ain't broke, dont' fix it." Double jumps, and scale change broke a part of this game. Weapons keep needing tweaks due to certain changing variables, and so it's just a matter of assessing what changes and added features are good ideas, and what ones will be overkill.

UT was a great game and I will always love it, but I have the same prob with UT running not good any more and I don`t want to change any configs of my g-card because
All SysAdmins in this world are saying: said:
Never change a running system!
But I truly miss some great maps though :( and I still hope that there will be a great conversion for UT2k4 ;)
