I'm too lazy to head over to the other Sfear]|[ thread..here's the email I received :

Im really very sorry, I think we will leave the gravity point for now... If we make one, I will contact you

Ah well, guess you can table Sfear]|[ for now. :(

Me too. I hate it when I disappear when passing through the
invisible zones in the sphere to realign myself with the floor.
I realize this is necessary or eventually I would be
upside-down but, it is still frustrating.
And I get some weird affects at the sphere zone borders too.
Various HOMs and disappearing towers are the
norm and even the explosions are cut in half by the zones. :(

Overall I'd say it is a very fun and imaginative map.
There is some good work in there that many non-mappers might
not appreciate because of the small faults. But these are
limitations of the game's engine rather than the way which the
map was made. :)
It is a mapper's map if you will. ;)

Thanx for sharing the map. It is a nice piece of work and a lot of fun to play. It will stay on my hard drive for some time to come.

Thanx for the well-elaborated feedback!

Many people have complained about the 'shock' when crossing a warpzone, but I'm glad to hear you understand why that shock is necessecary! :) It comes with the construction I've chosen and there's nothing to do about it.

That 'tower' and part of the electrical beam are probably disappearing because they're being viewed through 2 warpzones while the rest of the beam is viewed through 1 warpzone. The conjunction is just at the tip of the RL. This fault is caused by one of many bugs in Unreal's warpzones.

The HOM is probably caused by a bad BSP cut, which starts doing strange things when viewed through 3 warpzones. When you open Sfear][ in the editor and look down at all pieces in BSP view, you'll see 2 weak spots. I wasn't able to get rid of them by moving the pieces around or playing with the rebuild slide bars. :(

CTF-Sfear][ will probably be in the map rotation of StealthDP's Playground next week; it's receiving lots of votes! I guess some not-mappers like it as well! :p

It's currently 4th place. Considering that the top 22 (I think) go into the rotation and there's ~1 day of voting left, I think you're in! It'll be interesting to try out with other people..w00t!

People are going to be playing sFear online soon? Cool!
That would be fun. :)

Oh... one other thing about CTF-sFear which bugs me.
No BIO Rifle! (???) ... just kiding. ;)

Though I haven't opened sFear in the editor yet, just reading
your posts has given me some insight to the game engine
and it's faults. It's too bad the idea of playing the outside
of the sphere didn't work out Astyanax.
That would have been awsome!
Oh well, there is always Unreal2. Even though it won't have
the gravity point :( the developers might have worked out
some of the warp zone bugs with the new engine.

Maybe see some of you online for a sFear flag fest?

Yep..it's in rotation this week. I finally got in to play it and it was pretty fun IMO; though a few people were bitching about the problems. Hehe..it was fun though.

Did the warpzones work well online? were you able to see the enemy team respawn on the ceiling?

I've never been able to test CTF-Sfear][ on a dedicated server. I tested it as client of a non-dedicated server, but I couldn't see other players/projectiles through the warpzones. :hmm:

Uh..to tell ya the truth, I never looked up. Hehe..I was concentrating on not dying as I transitioned from one zone to the next. You should come play it..it goes right after b3communistparadise (I forgot which is before that one). But if you come to play it, get in whenever you have the chance; the server is almost always full and it's hard to get in. But, luckily, b3communistparadise usually gets people leaving, so there should be a slot or two open when it comes up.

Missed your shot..

Actually..the admins pulled the map last night because moving around in it was so difficult. They felt the warp zone problems hindered gameplay too much (also shown by the following: the server empties a bit when Sfear][ comes up) so they yanked the map. :( 'Twas fun while it lasted. :)

Dammit! :mad::mad:

Those SDP admins are clearly no mappers themselves. It strikes me that all mappers who have played CTF-Sfear][ think it's lots of fun and a refreshing concept; but that almost all non-mappers complain about the warpzones being disorientating!

About the biorifle: I could've added that one to CTF-Sfear][, along with the ripper. :rl:, :flak:, :ripper: and :biorifle: are the only weapons firing projectiles with both 1st and 2nd fire. As you may already know, instant-hit weapons (bullets, laser) don't work with warpzones.

So a biorifle would've worked fine. Who knows.... in CTF-Sfear]|[ :D

Haha..no they're not mappers. But they've got a server to run..the top mod CTF server, and when people can't get around in a map..it's got to go. But Sfear]|[ will rock..with it's goo and gravity point actor.. :D

Just as I thought. It is a mapper's map.
sFear has some great work but the average non-mapping
masses were not able to appreciate the work enough to
overlook the glitches. :( ... Too bad I didn't catch it while
it was running on a server. Alas, ... sigh, the game is getting
old and there are fewer servers running all the time. Probably
missed my only chance to play sFear against real people.

Oh well ... Unreal 2 is coming out soon. :D
Hopefully we will be able to play CTF-sFear ]|[ made with the
new Editor. ;)
What kind of weapons will Unreal 2 have? Anyone know?

There are lots of empty servers..you probably know someone who could set up a server to let you play a round or two with some friends on Sfear][. A mapper at the Playground setup a temp server for everyone to test the maps in a recent mini-map contest we had.

So..there's always a way. :)

Oh..and if you set it up..post the scheduled time and server info here..I'll probably come by. :D

You mean blito3? I read he also had my CTF-cowsCowsCOWS][ in rotation... there were some hilarious comments from Horton on that one! :D It actually scored some points and got some votes! I made it once for a bad map contest heh...

Yep..I was referring to blito3. Though there are other regs there who have offered to host games before. We had the DVNA server for a mini-matchup last week (but the guy didn't set it up right so we just used the Playground).

Sorry man, it was really hard to move around online... if you would like, let me know when you guys will be available, and I can meet you in the game and run it. Like I said before, really like the map, great concept.

Yeah, there are a lot of empty servers. :(
When you pull up the server browser there are so many empty
servers it makes you wonder why they don't close them.
Perhaps I am just looking at the wrong times though.

I'd be interested in playing some games.
If you want, I could host a game. But I only have 56k so it may
be too glitchy if you are used to broadband.
As far as playing with friends go ... most of them stopped
playing UT over a year ago to move on to newer and
different games. I might have moved on too but I am a die
hard 1st person shooter fan that got addicted to the Editor.
Actually, two of my friends have left UT on their system just to try
out my maps. But I can't get them to stop racing long enough for
a good online frag session though. :(
