Well so far every build has gone without a hitch. Parts still aren't here. I'm planning on building Friday night and/or Saturday. Just checked tracking, it left Hagerstown, MD ten minutes ago. Its FedEx so it'll probably hit West Chester, PA in the early morning (3am) and go out for delivery from there.

The goods are here. :)

HIGHLY impressed with the packaging on the power supply. Had that thing wrapped up in there good and tight... in a felt-like bag lol. I held the 295 up next to my 7900 GTO... it will have about a half inch of clearance between it and the HD cage (no dremel necessary \o/).

The RAM looks pretty awesome... and came with one of those coolers with two fans on it (more noise yay). I dunno if its my imagination but it seems the i7 is noticeably smaller than the C2D. The heatsink looks smaller too.

The SATA connectors on the mobo are at a 90 degree angle... not sure how that'll play out when hooking everything up but we'll see. Gotta go thru My Docs and stuff one more time tonight to make sure I'm not missing anything important. I don't wanna piss away a couple years worth of web design, photoshop work, and music downloading when I format lol.

There will be less blue glow coming out of my case since my current PS bleeds blue lol. Gonna put it in my parents computer and they'll be like wtf is that blue **** haha.

Oh, how I long for the days when I can afford to trade up from my socket 939 mobo, my 9800 Pro, and my paltry 1 gig of RAM! :D Congrats, Boney! Have fun!

The two fans came with the ram are soooo noisy! It seriously sounds like this thing is going to take off sometimes.

Crysis was averaging around 60 FPS with everything on high. I saw it spike down to 45 at one point when there was A LOT of scenery. Unfortunately it just decided to freeze up on me but thats ok. The 295 was blowing some seriously hot air out the back of the case. So atleast I know I got that part right. Some people were having issues with it blowing hot air into the case instead of out. CPU was at 41°C while playing.

I have office installed, adobe cs3 suite, my zune software. I have a custom theme that changes between a couple of my favorite backgrounds every 10 minutes :) I like it so far.

Would that be Win7?
My wife just got a good deal on a laptop with win7 on it, and we're thinking about getting it for mine... but I want to make sure everything will work on it before I spend that kinda money.

Yep, Win7 Pro 64... Should have jumped on the deal New Egg had back a few months. Pre-Order Win7 Pro Upgrade for 99 which is normally 199.

Boney, why don't you remove those squeaky ram fans and just make sure you have good 120mm fans pushing air through the case. Should help keep it quiet and keep the ram cool. You aren't OC the ram or cpu so heat shouldn't be to much of a factor.

Wha?
I was thinking about getting the 3 pack of win7 home upgrades.
Is there a huge difference between home and pro, or is it more tuned for builders and business people?

Well... they have a "compare" page here... but that doesn't tell you a whole lot. I imagine windows 7 could be similar to xp in the sense that home is garbage compared to pro... but if the only differences are whats listed on that page then I don't see the big deal.

The VAIO had xp home on it and it just seemed like it was half baked. Locking up, program faults, driver issues etc. Anytime someone asks me to reformat for them and they say they want xp home on it (instead of vista or whatever) I was like ummm let me put pro on it you'll thank me later. Jason witnessed first hand how crappy xp home was

I got a single pack OEM full version of Win7 Pro 64 bit from zipzoomfly for $135. I think the price went up slightly since then, but home would be a little cheaper than that.

So far everything runs fine. (Zune software (64 bit btw), L4D, guildwars, TS). No driver issues so far. The only thing I'm using that is "for vista" is the program that monitors my battery backup. Everything else is for 7.

Just to compare Lurk... cuz I know you were using vista for a while. I started this machine up about 20 minutes ago... all I've done was start up firefox and media player.

52 processes, 0% cpu usage, currently using 1.24 GB of 4 gigs of ram. Now, obviously there are more processes than xp and more ram usage... but vista would probably be using double the ram and still eating my processor alive. Boot time and shutdown are as fast if not faster than my xp machine.

I have no complaints so far.

Dave... I thought about taking those corsair fans off. I dunno if they'll overheat then or not. But seriously...

Front: 120mm fan, Top: 120mm fan, Rear: 120mm fan, Sidepanel: 140mm fan, Dual fans on the ram, cpu heatsink fan, videocard fan, and the PSU has another 140mm blowing out the bottom of the case. This bitch is LOUD... but thats what loud music and/or headphones is for right?

Boney, with that much airflow you don't need Fans on the Ram. The Corsair already comes with Heat Spreaders so just moving air across them would be enough. Your case didn't seem that loud at the Lan but you have added a few more.. Man, I remember my old case when I had 2-Tornado's and 4 other 80mm fans. Damn, that beast was loud. Nothing louder then those Tornado's...

My Extra 2GB of Ram should be arriving today. Kind of curious if it makes a big speed boost in loading 7 and other Apps.

Well Crap, apparently this setup can't handle 4GB of ram. Had start up issues with lockups and blue screens once I did get into windows. Now the new ram is in right now(Running 2GB) so it doesn't appear to be bad ram. Which leads to me believe a BIO's update might be needed. Well Crap..

Your motherboard isn't that old is it? Should be able to recognize 16gb+ right out of the box.

Could be a problem with the addressing of the memory. Might need to start from scratch after all. Upgrading to 7 AFTER you installed the ram may have prevented this issue.

First wouldn't even post to BIO's
Then got into there it was detected. Made sure nothing was OC and set to defaults. Restarted, got to 7 Loading Screen and froze. restarted and Got it to start up. My Computer Showed 4GB thought nice.. Then got BSOD, restarted same thing. Pulled old ram and just tried new ram. Works fine has froze or anything. Even booted into XP and did some Updates. Dunno, why can't seem to Get ASUS Update to work correctly but your right its probably not BIO's anyway. Screw it..
