If Epic had made a good sequel to UT99 and UT2k4, it would not have failed this drastically. That it has failed demonstrates enough that it's a poor game.

Yes, but during UT3's development Gears Of War was circumventing around it. Gears of War has already been said by Epic that its their #1 Priority, and is there new AAA series. UT3 simply had less focus and attention than most of the previous UT's have had due to Epic's change in favoritism towards a particular game series based on success. Gears of War gets the AAA attention now while UT is a secondary game, started since UT3 Development and GoW Debut Success.

If Epic's new focus is console games then this suggests a bit of double mindedness on their part. Either that, or they never lost focus of PC gaming in the first place. Maybe CliffyB was misunderstood in his quote.

The PC Gaming Alliance which, if I am not mistaken, is designed to 'save' PC gaming was just announced at GDC. The companies onboard this initiative include:
It was just announced at GDC, and comprises not only the rumoured Intel, Nvidia, AMD/ATi and Microsoft (along with Alienware, Dell, ACER and Gateway), but publishing giants Epic and Activision as well.

Now, unless they're talking about a different Epic then I am going to assume that they're talking about the Epic of UT fame.

I'll throw the conspiracy hat on now.

This could be just a business move due to their big potential (rumor) buyer, Microsoft, also being a part of the initiative. It could also just be a business move to sell licenses' of their engine to the PC devs and not just console devs. All in all they may not really have anything more to do with the PC market aside from providing an engine.
