I occasionally stop by like Emmet to see if any progress has been made; I too, like the rest of you, feel the wait has been too long, however, I still feel confident that this patch will be a tremendous leap.
The public beta was released on December 10th, 2004, and the first patch was released in less than a month, on January 1st, 2005; from that day up to now, we have been waiting almost 5 and 1/2 months. Keeping in mind the amount of issues resolved in the first patch, I hopefully estimate a massive, almost finalized product in this next patch.
There are still maps I have seen in the screenshots that are still not available, the female classes are not available, they still have the bug list to attend to, and then the bots and Instant Action; 5 and 1/2 months is adequate time to patch the game up and feature the new content. I personally think FMI is doing the finishing touches, polishing things up. I mean, their updates have been on unimportant things, like new splash screens, that particle matinee thing, the ingame updates and mismatch screens, and the new website design. Since all of these things seem small and visual, I figure they have to be in the last stages of the patch; well, at least that is how I interpret it.
I still play U2XMP regularly, and dive into Doom III, Far Cry, and Half Life II single player modes for fun; just try to stay objective and patient. U2XMP has certainly bought up some fanatical fans with deep desires to keep this game alive and kicking, and FMI needs our encouragement and support. After all, this is free, and I am sure they would hate to have loyal U2XMP fans turn away after their hard work.
Once it is done, we need to promote this; make maps, slap on some UTXMP signatures and try to persuade folks to give this a try.
Go FMI. \m/
