In all seriousness I agree the shape and crispness of the edges he has there are great. I was trying for a realistic textured version inspired by the existing logo with the addition of gold. If I could have done that with his shape I would have. But I lack those skills.

Here is another variant, this time with the U a bit beat up and some more stylized text... though in hind sight the slices would have looked better on Crotales spikey font. They would also look better if they were all at the same angle/s

Edit: For instance make all angles 0, 90, or 45. Which would take restructuring of the N. And if the spikes cut at 45 also... it would help with the symmetry.

Looks like it works pretty well to me... Or did you miss the part where I started talking about it working better on your font. Still could probably use some work though.

Really? Well it is no surprise to me I got that wrong, as I solely based it off pictures you have posted and possibly that facebook thread from ages ago. Well that and I am terrible at judging an individuals genetic lineage... also I am still probably going to hell for that joke.

They looked lonely without them and I didn't come up with any alternatives at the time. Though now the obvious answer for the 'E', is to make the shorter arm cut in at its present length rather then extending it out then cutting back.

The 'O' sticks out with all the other pointed things and though I knew the slice looked funny it looked like it needed help. I still got nothing there. Though the 'O' is about 6px larger (3 above 3 below) then all the other letters.
I tried a vertical slice and it looked like a military stencil.
Clearly I tried a horizontal slice on that unrealized font but I don't expect the effect to be much different here. There I found it kinda... boring.
While typing this a thought occurs to me; A slice on each corner would make it resemble 1 of the cross-hair options in ut2k4... not necessarily a desirable effect in the setting of this logo though.

The effects make it too busy. The slices on the B make it look like a 3 with some insert in its left side. Might be better to give it the same treatment as your R and D characters.

The 3 thing has been bugging me also, but I liked the double spike on the lead in character. The effect made the it more bold, helping the overall effect make an impact that worked with the verbal fact that the first few letters of the title have more of an emphasis then anything but the U.

Yeah I know there are some rough edges. Quick and dirty edit.

I like the texture of this U quite a bit. I'd rather have this 'ricer' than something from a ten-year-old Newgrounds flash cartoon.

But to be honest, I haven't seen a concept that I really like yet. The current ones really aren't that bad. They are clean and simple.

I think what worked on the current logo is that the main eye catcher is the U, with the ones I've seen the accents of the 'Beyond' and 'nreal' distract to much from the U and make the logo look too busy.

I think I'd like to revisit this if anyone is interested still. FWIW, UT went back to a Black/White/Grey with a bit of blue theme. I like the dark grey and orange to a certain extent but it doesn't feel very fresh at all. Maybe I'm just crazy.

Well a good place to start than would be for you guys in the decision process to go through what has been suggested already and pick what you like out and maybe what you absolutely don't like. That would give a more concrete point to jump back in at.
