I noticed a few of us, including myself bought Borderlands via Steam last weekend(along with L4D2)
I'm trying to find the cash to do so. It's £27 in the UK which will turn in to around £2-£7 cheaper than retail in the end.

Though I'm just getting in to Fallout 3 so may wait for a weekend offer or something...

Dude, seriously?
Are you already on their talent page? I noticed there was a new level designer on the page.

You're so gonna leak Aliens and Brothers in Arms 4 footage for us.

But seriously that's cool - I'd apply there if it wasn't for the distance/country. Real gamers - no businessmen who make games only for profit.

I don't see why. Randy stated how they've played their own product to the point of production reduction, you can clearly see it's true when you see them talk about their games, and looking at their job page.

Yes, games are made for profit. Sometimes, a little too much. To the point of being businessmen, and lose the balance in both.

You make it sound like the rest of us are just in it for the money. :(

Sorry, I was mostly aimed at Infinity Ward, Bungie, Epic Games. I'd say that Epic Games just really has just changed to the point of being a console developer, because profit is really consistent there. Drama too, awesome daily drama on their boards.

Anyway, my point really was that Gearbox are mostly gamers in the first place. I also prefer smaller developers, they remind of what Epic Games once was.

Have fun out there Mozi.

EA. Ubisoft.
Idiots who think that because a game was successful on one platform they can do a half-assed port onto another and it'll sell on its name alone.

I'm pretty sure 99% of game developers are gamers. Why else would they be game developers? It's not like the industry pays well.

Sure, high management type people will want to make money, but sureley thats the point of managing a company, to make as much money as possible?

The problem is the higher ups finance the games. They're trying to save money while making money. The more they spend the less likely they'll get an ROI. It's a balance. So they're focus is all about the money. But without the money games don't get made. So its fiscal policy that dictates game production not gamers. That's why, I imagine, we had that slew of hack-kneed retarted wii games when the system first came out.

Yes I understand the need to control a budget and not spend spend spend on whatever, but at the same time it removes a bit of the creative control from the game designers. They're creative potential is limited by the amount they can spend.

Gearbox is just like any other company. They'll be "gamers" until they hit the limelight with a big game and then everything will change. As they've yet to produce anything that really mattered, they are still a "good" company. But if Borderlands is anywhere near as popular as the hype machine decrees, they'll go the way of Infinity Ward, Epic, and everyone else who got a taste of the big money.

And we've somehow arrived at the point again that games companies becoming successful and wanting to create revenue is a bad thing, in a topic that doesn't deserve it.

10/13/16 more days till release, woo!

How do you qualify for "going the way of" the above listed companies? Does Infinity Ward make bad games now?

Every game company is a business. They aren't hobbyists, they do this full time. Is it just involvement with the community?
