With what AMD did with DDR1, I'm sure the benifits will be there. As to DDR3 support, don't think I want to wait another year
Also, from what I gather, AM2's will run significantly cooler than X2's. Sounds like an opurtunity to OC a AM2 higher than any X2 could dream. If AMD was smart, they'd boost performance by a small clock increase, similar to what nVidia did with the 7900 over the 7800. Clocked the same, the 7900 is the same as the 7800.

Oh yea, I didn't notice any memory test. They kinda missed the whole point of the new chip

There is a Sandra memory bandwidth bench there, and the AM2 is showing slightly better bandwidth.
Now if they could drop those outrageous timings down from 5-5-5-15 to almost anything....

Well , I finally broke down and bought the Lian Li V1000B Plus (black). It comes with the blower for the video cards :tup:
I have 4 raptors to go into the case when it arrives. I'm choosing a PSU now.

I`m running one of these 600 watt SLI OCZ units, and the finish on the thing rivals that of any fine auto. Specs arn`t so bad either. :tup:

I'm hoping with the Advent of DDR2-800 timings will improve (/me agrees with Rukee on this)

I got my case yesterday, and all those ppl who tout Lian Li are right (like Mike). It could be a piece of furniture it looks so nice. Totally exceeded my expectations. Way glad I didn't get the tin and plastic gamer case .

I wasnt sure if you would get it. The bushed aluminum is so well done you could run your finger nails across it and still achieve that finger nails on chalk board shrill down your spine.

It makes upgrading almost a snap with that slide out mobo tray.

As much as I hate to say it, looks like the new conroe chip is going to be faster then the M2 platform. less voltage, no fan required on the heat sink, and just plain faster even at a lower clock speed. Victor @ Xtreme has both the conroe and M2 platforms and has done some basic straight up CPU testing between the two.

AM2 still seems like the better choice in June 06.
1. Conroe won't be out til Q1 07
2. 65nm AM2 chips will be out Q2 07 (can u say "upgrade")
3. Benchmarks in that thread are on beta hardware

Ask what rev it is, as the early samples were so beta there performance will be nothing near retail (no 1066 memory support)

I'm thinking about just getting a AM2 3800+ for now and upraging when the new 65nm stuff comes out in Q1 2007.
Rather spend the extra 5 bills on a second 7900GTX.
