Well kickback and muzzle rise are not exactly the same, but they have the same origin.
The kickback and muzzle rise are quite equally proportional at the same weapon, when you use different ammo.
Handguns tend to have more muzzle rise, since you don't absorb the energy with the shoulder.
But a heavier weapon has less kickback/muzzle rise than a light one, using the same caliber.(but there are limits as to how much you improve your gun adding weight - there is the point, when accuracy goes to hell because you cannot hold it anymore..)
