Two Factor Authentication is now available on BeyondUnreal Forums. To configure it, visit your Profile and look for the "Two Step Verification" option on the left side. We can send codes via email (may be slower) or you can set up any TOTP Authenticator app on your phone (Authy, Google Authenticator, etc) to deliver codes. Yes, the Diamond Supra Express External is THE modem to have, gamer or not. It was the best modem I've ever used.. till my mom took it. Now I've got a Creative labs Modem Blaster.. blah!
Yeah, from what I've seen this is THE gaming modem. Its not the best for d/ling, but who cares about 0.2K/sec difference in d/l speed anyways?
I've got the 56i VPro pci version but my pings are nowhere near that low (170-210). What ISP are you with and have you done anything with your init string?I WANT CABLE!!!

INIT strings caused nothing but problems for me. I use BTAnytime as the IP. I didnt do any tweaks to get that ping, and I doubt any tweaks would really improve it.
Thats not to say tweaks are bad, on my winmodem tweaks did improve my connect a little. Some tweaks will harm ping, for some it can help a lot, so its worth trying. Also if you do tweak your modem, DONT use modem tweak program, as they usually badly effect gaming performance.
It all comes down to 3 things in the end, ISP, phone lines, modem. You can improve 2 of them with little problem, but bad phone lines can be hard/impossible to fix. Check your line for line noise if your ISP seems good and your modem is good, yet you still get bad pl. Phone up your phone company and tell them that your net connect sux, they may be able to do something for you. I remember when I was on a winmodem BT managed to cut about 50 out of my ping by increasing the gain on the line.

I get a similar ping on a bog standard modem, but ive had to tweak it to hell and back just to get there (im not looking forward to a reinstall...).

I really need to try that, but I keep expecting the usual dumb response from them 'have you tried another ISP/modem/well they're probably busy'. I haven't been able to connect with my Diamond supra for about 4 months now, since the bad weather in February my connection has been getting slowly worse. Only way I can hold a stable connection is to force it to connect a 28k using at+ms=11,0,,,,,
Without that it'll try to connect at 33-37k and either fail or drop the line after 5-30 minutes, usually when i'm winning
. I know it's not the m0dem - I bought another one. Right now i'm recuced to playing on an internal nasty cheap modem - for some reason it holds OK without that at string, but pings 200-350 average.What's the best department to call for help with this, to bypass the usual non-tech people who treat you like an AOL user?.

I had my line gain set to 5 and it was a great improvement... I forgot to reset it when I moved house

I get like pings of 250 average on every server. I never get pings of 150 or anything.. I'm on 56k, btw.. and mine is tweaked to hell..

I play on a U.S. Robotics Sportster Data/Fax 33.6 and I get pings ranging from 210 to around 12000 or more. Sometimes (this is weird) my ping drops to 4 for a few minutes, and I get perfect gameplay. No lag whatsoever, it's almost as if I'm playing a local game (botmatch). If anyone knows why, I'm interested to know about this phenomenon.
