Darkmatches were fun, I really liked that one map with the fog volume near that one pipe. I thought it was the most realistic looking fog I'd ever seen in a video game. :p

CTF-LavaGiant][ had BSP holes apparently and never made it into UT2004 despite being in the UT2003 Bonus Pack.

From what I remember, that one had problems due to it being one of the first maps built to test the new engine tech (along with DM-Gestalt and that other outdoor platform BR/CTF map). All of them were intended for UT2003. LG][ had an issue with the skybox due to UT2003 -> UT2004 engine changes and was just never fixed. There's more to that story, but I don't recall all of the details.

*sigh*

I guess I'm jaded, but I just can't get excited about "Yes, we're working on a Bonus Pack. More later." I mean, that's not really any new information, is it? I'm not ragging on Steve for posting (far from), but rather on this warranting a front page news item.

And FWIW, I think you guys are off on the wrong tangent re: download sizes. Of course it's more byes; subsequent generations always are. But what he's saying is that they obviously think that this one will offer much more CONTENT than any Bonus Pack ever has. Which is really saying something given the scope of DLC they've offered in the past.

I hope it's soon (waiting for info on this and L4D DLC is killing me), but more than that I hope it's good. By all means Epic, take a lesson from the retail release and take as long as you need. Just make it GREAT. 2K4 Great. Never ship a half-assed product, even if it's free (see 1st DLC map pack).

That's your opinion then, I guess. It's just that it's something for current/past/potential UT3 players to talk about - and that's been kind of a rare thing lately. The name of the pack and the fact that it's "bigger than any pack we've done for any previous title" is welcome new to me.

I agree with you though that he appears to be talking about content and not file size.

I'm glad to see this. Sounds like good news, and I hope it turns out to be so. However, I wonder if Demo Guy will strike again...

As far as I know this Titan Pack is not for free, isn't it? While I surf some other boards I found out that this will definitely with costs (no problem for me).

If it was a game type / mutator it should accept any map to be played as a darkmatch map. Not maps that need to be specially made for it. Because in that case you're better of using a map prefix DARK-SomeThing, because the special darkmatch maps wouldn't be playable in a normal DM game (because it's too dark). By adding the check for "DARKMATCH" in the name the map, with not a lot of light, would still have more or less visible players. Although I don't get it why you want to have glowing players in a map you made to be dark. Then what's the function of the darkness in the map.

Remember, in the classic Darkmatch there were no normal light, and players carried a flashright with unlimited power. Turning the light on, an firing your gun would reveal your location (well, and making sound would).

Yeah I remember CTF/BR-ElecFields getting cut despite being used as the backdrop of the UT2003 web page for the longest time :D

LavaGiant was just weird. My GeForce2Ti couldn't render the animated skybox correctly (it looked dreally cool though). I had no trouble dropping it into 2004 with my Radeon 9600 and then my current rig. I think someone in the community tried to fix the BSP holes but they tossed in some salt or ice pillars for cover around the bases which I think looked out of place.

If they're making reference to the size of previous bonus packs, I'd say chances are good that it'll be free, at least for PC players.

Commenting on the latest gargantuan upcoming UT3 patch, Steve Polge reveals that the next step for UT3 is to release the Titan Pack, "which is substantially bigger than any bonus pack we've released in the past."

That's saying a lot, considering the contents of some of their previous bonus packs.

Are you saying that they're going to release another patch/bonus pack after the one that they're working on right now?

It sure does seem like they're doing a lot of work for a game that that never really garnered nor retained even a medium-sized player base. If they aren't going to release a UT4, then I wonder if they might be planning some sort of a complete re-launch for UT3 with new publicity as though it were a new game, allowing those who already have it to download all of the patches.

Did anyone else notice that "Throw Weapons" is being brought back?
