the 2nd Amendment - like every other amendment - has seen its share of violations and undercutting and regulation long before people like you started pretending that there was a vast Liberal conspiracy to abolish it. no one is talking in such terms. some people just want more regulations than you do. they're not saying we should ban guns. but you guys are over there like FROM MY COLD DEAD HANDS, DON'T GIVE AN INCH as though the 2nd Amendment were a religious institution over whose grounds you're willing to live or die.

Just to be clear, I'm not a Christian and and I'm not a Constitutionalist. However, I think the Bill of Rights is essential, and we should be highly skeptical of any attempt to reduce or abolish it. Those articles, to my way of thinking, are absolutely necessary checks on the power of government. They aren't even complete protections against tyranny, they're just a kind of baseline. If we have to start cutting into those basic things, even superficially, we know we've really lost our way.

More importantly than any legal document, though, I think human beings have natural rights, universal and inalienable. If the law of the land is that slavery is right, the law is wrong. If the law of the land is that everyone but gay people can get married, the law is wrong. And if the law of the land is that a human being cannot keep a modern, effective tool on his person for meeting any potential force with force, the law is wrong. If there's any right a person has, it's the right to life, and the right to resist indignities and violence. This is not an academic point that can be deconstructed and reconsidered. I can't deny my need for a gun any more than I can deny my need for food or sex. I feel the way I do because of what I am, not what I think. If you're built different, fine. But this is who I am.

Now, you suggested I'm being unreasonable because nobody is saying we should ban guns. This might be technically true, but it's practically false. Nobody is saying the words "We should ban guns" because that would never work in America. Instead, they propose we continue to "allow guns" but ban all the useful ones, something like the schoolyard bully's game of I'm Not Touching You. You can still "bear arms", so long as there are no detachable magazines and the fixed ones can only hold ten rounds and it can't resemble anything that any serious military user would require and while we're at it let's talk about just banning semi-automatics altogether....

The funny thing is that many of the anti-trump groups are run by paid protestors, or organized by moveon and other Soros backed groups. The protesters wait beyond the police lines looking for individuals they can separate and harass. These attacks are organized and premeditated. In this video a man was struck in the head with a bag of rocks!


I find it mind boggling that the media made such a big deal over the one or two protesters that were attacked inside Trumps rallies, and yet here we have anti-Trump protestors committing violence on an almost daily basis now.
 
I'm not really blaming the Bernie supporters.. just the media for presenting a very biased version of what actually happens. I'm not surprised that the dems don't disavow this kind of behaviour because it would be stupid to draw attention to it. It does irk me a bit that Trump gets a week of being forced to comment on the littlest things and the rest aren't even bothered.

Public criticism and ridicule is fine obviously. Did you miss the fact that a bunch of innocent people were cheap shot KOed and hit with bags of rocks, etc? This includes kids as young as 15 being assaulted. Honest question, are you saying that is justified?

Just because someone doesn't believe in the same things as you doesn't give you the right to assault them and silence them. That is closer to fascism than anything Trump has ever said. You're a complete hypocrite. Keep posting videos of comedians that only interact with the public during autograph signing sessions. Freedom of speech doesn't only apply to you.

But I understand. That's the only argument these people have left after all. We could have a sensible immigration policy. One where we protect our borders, let lots of people in legally, and keep the drugs and criminals out. But apparently that doesn't work for future Democrat demographic plans so...

Seeing that Clinton pulled further ahead in the Democrats race, I can hardly see Trump not winning anymore. I mean, Bernie Sanders probably was the most-liked of the three potential candidates throughout the entire pre-elections, while Clinton and Trump are the least-liked candidates of all times. They beat all unfavorable ratings other presidential candidates "achieved" before them.

But then again, the voters in general seem to act against their own interest most of the time. For example (and that's probably an example US Americans won't understand), the Swiss voted against an unconditional base income just yesterday. That base income would have replaced other sources of income for those without a job and would be an additional source of income for those with a job. Then again, it's meant to be only a base income, hardly better than what you already get when you live off welfare. The "unconditionalness" of this income is the part that actually can safe administrative costs. And keep in mind, working people already pay welfare, child benefit, unemployment benefit, etc. via their taxes. They would have paid the unconditional base income instead, not in addition.
I suppose, deep within, most people expect to become rich at some point and gain a disadvantage from ideas like that. The reality is: People are bad at math (and often are even proud of that) and will never ever be negatively affected by "disadvantages" like that. Actually they are much more likely to benefit or be relatively unaffected. The people who understand tend to vote for candidates like Bernie Sanders, the others prefer candidates like Donald Trump or Hillary Clinton who will clearly not work in their voters' favor, but actually do whatever pleases their big financial supporters.

I would like to see some Democratic Socialist ideas implemented in this country, but Bernie Sanders was never the person who ever had an actual chance of pulling that off, and I say that as someone who voted for him.

He is the most liked because he was the least attacked. The Republicans wanted him instead of Clinton because they knew they would just have to call him a communist to destroy him, and Clinton didn't attack him because she didn't want to fracture the Democrats. With all of that working in his favor, he should have done much better. Bernie is losing because he couldn't be bothered to truly campaign in the south or waver from his stump speech. The fact that he couldn't even do as well as Clinton did against Obama in 2008, especially now that anti-establishment sentiment is at all all-time high, is a testament to how incompetently he's been running his campaign.

Just screaming "that's racist", and hoping that people will listen.

It's more that the Republicans are agreeing with the openly racist things that an openly racist person is saying, and they'll hope that some people won't notice the fact that his plan is insanely cost prohibitive for how little it would benefit the country.

It's not that simple. It's more that Trump is almost everything that the Republicans have valued since Goldwater's campaign. He's the culmination of the southern strategy. Throw in his wealth and how he says the shit Republican voters know their politicians really want to say and he becomes the Republican ideal.

Their indignity that the country is being run by a black man certainly sped things up, but someone like Trump was always going to show up eventually because the Republicans are completely unwilling to change their core strategy.

Anyone trying to claim Trump is any worse than Hillary is really getting off on the wrong foot here. Both candidates are pretty much the absolute worst this country has to offer (and that's saying something since most of the candidates who ran this season have been "the worst" IMO).

Frankly, the only difference between them is that Trump doesn't care what people think of what he says as a career "clickbaiter", and Hillary cares too much what people think of what she says as a career politician. Neither one of them is qualified to be President or have any control over anything important in this country.

People are voting for Trump because he successful fatigued them of criticism very early on in the campaign and most of the people that support him are deaf to criticism of him now. That has turned out to be his greatest strategy and is probably the basis of why he's going to win the election. You can't vilify someone where nobody cares about your vilification anymore. Some people are voting for him just because he says whatever he wants to say and people are sick of political correctness. Some because he had a TV persona that they liked. Some because he's not Hillary. This is what happens when the leadership of a country is elected by popularity and marketing and a sound media strategy from the very beginning. These are all things that you guys loved with Obama despite him having no real qualifications either time he ran for President... now you hate it because it's the other guy doing it.

All that being said, I doubt I will vote for Trump and I don't support him. Like I said above, he is a horrible candidate, no better than Hillary. Third party is catching my eye even if it means "throwing away my vote".

Alexander Hamilton classically supported Jefferson for President in 1800 by saying "Mr. Jefferson, though too revolutionary in his notions, is yet a lover of liberty and will be desirous of something like orderly Government – Mr. Burr loves nothing but himself – thinks of nothing but his own aggrandizement – and will be content with nothing short of permanent power". What are we supposed to do when we are faced with two Aaron Burrs and no Thomas Jeffersons?
