So what mp3 player/ipod/PMP do you use?

  • Two Factor Authentication is now available on BeyondUnreal Forums. To configure it, visit your Profile and look for the "Two Step Verification" option on the left side. We can send codes via email (may be slower) or you can set up any TOTP Authenticator app on your phone (Authy, Google Authenticator, etc) to deliver codes. It is highly recommended that you configure this to keep your account safe.

Blackberry Storm here. I have 8 gb of space. I have a bunch of music, pics and 4 full length movies and still have 5.1 gb left. Btw a good media conversion program is Handbrake. It's free and it lets you convert media into all kinds of formats.

Rockbox is an Open Source replacement firmware for portable digital audio players. A list of supported players can be found on the frontpage. For a more detailed list and for a list with targets under development see TargetStatus.
Rockbox is a complete rewrite and uses no fragments of the original firmware. It boasts numerous features while remaining easy to use.

I've installed it on my daughter's 1GB Sansa (3GB with the SD card) and it was a lifesaver - almost all of my digital music is in OGG format and I really didn't fancy having to re-rip to mp3. Plus, there is something rather cool (and stupid) about being able to play Doom on the tiny display of the Sansa. Good fun for at least 10 minutes.

Not sure what you mean by that. I could buy one and probably would have if there wouldn't be 2 things that are actually pretty minor but prevent it from being a valid replacement for my D2.

*edit*
Actually 3 things. The third might put off others unlike the other two unmentioned anoyances. Playlist support seems to be as crappy as on the D2.

All the webshops I found only had the 8 & 16 Gb versions.
What are those annoyances you refer to ?

For me there are three important features :
= it has to function as a mass-storage device (ie : no drivers or utilities like iTunes, just plain ol' file explorer to copy music)

= at least 8 hours of battery-life

= at least 20 Gb, because I don't want to select what music to listen to

a) Bigger than the D2, just a tad bit to big to fit in my bag
b) No way to attach a lanyard

As for the D2
*USB Mass Storage: yes (it's what I use)
*Batter lasted over 40 hours of music / 10 hours of video when it was new

As far as I can tell all your requirements are met by the S9
If you have specific questions about the S9 you could ask them here:

It's the forum of a Cowon fan site

Hey man thanks for recomending Handbrake. I'm gonna give it a shot. I've been looking for a free converter of my avi files to watch on my iphone.

Thanks.

I'm thinking about getting that.
Would you highly recommend it?

I've got the 16gb version of it and I would definately recommend it. - It may not have a whole load of fancy features like internet browsing but it is great for what it does. The sound quality and included headphones are great, the video playback is flawless (and you get video conversion software with it), the battery life is good, the menus are all nice and responsive and it is quite customisable. It also has a few features like streaming music from your PC or from creative media servers using wifi and a radio of course, all of which seem to work well. I would recommend getting a case for it however. :)

How can you have an ipod and not itunes? It's like cheese and wine, they're nice on their own but go better together. Winamp has been rubbish for years in comparison, itunes has steadily improved (faster, lower overheads)...
Huh, the only thing Apple always fails at is writing software for Windows. iTunes itself may be good, however the concept of Apple software on Windows is not. The fact that you're installing an Apple application seems to make Apple think you need pretty much everything they can offer. And there goes a crapload of small apps running in background, and all of them should launched at start up just in case you'll need them. Oh, and Safari is an important update to iTunes, huh.

they can't even get quicktime player to remember your volume settings, after how many hundreds of versions of the thing.
Instant fail right there.

Even worse is it defaults to 100%, so I immediately rush to the volume controls so I don't wake neighbors/blow speakers, after starting a file with any audio at all.
I don't know how they think they are competing with junk like that.

dumb.
