How did you make the transition to WASD ?

UT2004. I recall I played UT2003 with the arrow keys, it's when I got involved in online gameplay I read that most of the people used 1,2,3,4,Q,F,E,Z,R,X,C and so on for their weapons. I got a bit of confusion at first but it's REALLY easy to get used to, and it's way more convenient. I don't want to look back now.

Whenever I get back to arrows I feel like a hamster gnawing on a stick. Not to mention that I had a lot of keys out there.

I don't understand people that use WASD. I mean you have your arms spread as if you're playing a piano.

that's a rather odd way to look at it isn't it?

With a keyboard and mouse in front of a right handed person the mouse is usually in line with the right shoulder whilst the keyboard sits more central, putting wasd in line with the left. To use the combo in another way involves reaching over from one side to the other and there are inherant sacrifices being made for doing so. The arms aren't being spread out though, they're just where the should be.

Lefties often use the arrows, numpad and/or ijkl.

That said though if it does mimic a piano player that's probably not bad. I mean there is a reason they don't huddle up at on end of the keys.

P.s/ is leonardo for real?

Ah, arrow keys.. to be young again, and also a robot! :D

Erm, yeah, anyway.
I use WASD these days, mostly because I'm too lazy to rebind keys, and also because my lappie is not arrow-friendly.

Maybe. Here's the keys I had been using for a few years and I wasn't exactly a pushover:

arrows: movement
Ctrl: fire
left mouse: alt fire
right mouse: jump
numpad 0: duck
numpad 1: multiple weapon bind 1
numpad 2: multiple weapon bind 2
numpad 3: multiple weapon bind 3

So for a combo it was a case of doing a ctrl + left mouse.

Edit: Actually I remember having changed the numpad keys to single weapons (shock, rocket, sniper).

Certainly. Any key set you can use well is fine I was just saying it's not wierd to use wasd, it's quite logical really, barring the fact that the wasd keys don't have handy symbols on describing what they'll do.

I'm very much a believer of using keys as you please. I for example always set q and e to jump and crouch respectively where others would bind weapons or so.

I did the transition from arrows to WASD a bit recently, while playing PC Gears of War. I realized it was easier for me to press the SpaceBar while moving my char with WASD (default keys, and I was bored as **** to change them).

Went well in UT3 and spamming jumps since the transition.

Actually I seem to be more skilled with arrows and I hate that I have to use wasd here, well it is not bad..but well it kinda depends also what keyboard type it is, the one I use(d) with my standard PC isn't hard to control with arrows, in fact I find it easier and I bound lot of keys to numpad and keys nearby, so it is not that unconformable really.

I am used to that and actually in some games (not all), I have bound later jumping to a mouse key, in my old mouse I had it on side button and later on the new one which didn't have a side one, I have it on middlemouse.

Just noticed the thread.

Actually, Asia made quite a few cool skins for UT back in the days. I remember an interview with her where she talked about UT and being very dedicated to the game. And they also had screenies from a whole bunch of skins she made, and i recall they did look very proffesional.

So from that point, she was more than "just a stupid player"

PS arrows are the way to play Unreal :) and for that matter UT, its just i only play Unreal :) Which of course is the best game ever, even before DOOM 1 and 2 and Quake 1 and 2 :)

Edit:

Just found 2 downloads from her skins at this link:

I used to play with MBG on unrealplayground several years ago. She was much better than your average player, and a good sport. Met her in person for a signing and delivered a signed portrait of Idol_Idle (one of the regulars on UPG) to her as a joke since the dude had talked to her for a while in game. She claimed she put it up on the wall.

She never made a big deal out of who she was on the server so everybody liked her. It was cool. B)

I remember thsoe photos. You and your GF took pics with her. I was a regular there too.

Wonder if she works a regular job now, or is able to sit comfortably for quite a while.

Ok, could someone explain to me who "Asia" is?
From what i can tell Asia is the internet name of that girl on the first page, which is a pornstar, which plays UT?

She used to be a famous porn star. I didnt know who she was until UT tho.
I think if you yahooed for asian porn 6-10 years ago, youd have found her.

from the tags below, I can see some of BU miscs.
