If you've been waiting on Aliens: Colonial Marines, the news might be a bit hard to swallow - the game has been delayed until at least 2010. Instead, Sega will push a new Aliens vs. Predator game first.

A new Aliens vs. Predator game will arrive in early 2010, publisher Sega has announced, with the company noting that AvP will hit before its other two Aliens games.

That means Gearbox's shooter Aliens: Colonial Marines (PC, PS3, 360) and Obsidian's Aliens RPG won't debut until 2010, at the very earliest. Colonial Marines was originally expected last year, and was recently listed as a Q1 2009 release by Sega Europe.

A possible silver lining... this new game is being developed by Rebellion, who developed the original Aliens vs. Predator.

  1. Colonial Marines won't come out until after AvP3. So again, 2010, not 2009.
  2. Monolith developed AvP2, not Rebellion. :p

As overjoyed as I am about the announcement of AvP3, I can't see the sense of this decision. Surely Colonial Marines is in a state closer to completion.

Rebellion handling development duties is a bit of a chin scratcher. On the one hand, obviously they did a fantastic job on the original game (and the Atari Jaguar title that preceded it), but developers of successful 90s shooters don't necessarily repeat their triumphs in more recent attempts. Rebellion's other big title, Dredd Vs Death, was not what you'd call a success.

The news of a new AvP game makes me happy. I just pray they won't screw it up. I wonder if they're using the unreal engine for this title.

that sounds good.

i remember the first AvP was one of those games my parents didn't want me to play and checked my computer for regularly. fortunately for me there was this little trick to install software in the recycle bin so it couldn't be found unless you really suspected something might be installed in there

Wow, look at all the Aliens and Predator news here! I loved playing AvP2 online. Couldn't get the first one to work on my previoius computer, even though it had more than enough horsepower to handle the job (go figure). Anyhow, I'm looking forward to it.

What happens if they empty the recycle bin? :D

I really don't understand why they delayed the game for a new AvP one. I don't know if the Aliens game would've feature multiplayer, but even if it did it wouldn't have the awesome predator in it. :p People would still be interested in AvP regardless of another aliens game... Oh well...Can't wait for it. ^^

You did see the news that it's rumored to be in danger of getting canned, right? :p
