Expose and Spaces are unbelievably useful for organizing my desktop and finding a window, I probably press the Expose key on my keyboard more than any other. You have probably never even seen what it does, much less gotten completely used to it, so don't tell me it's not useful.

I think you'll find he has seen it, or at least something similar. You know, seeing as how both ubuntu and Vista have the same feature.
Which also goes for stickies. Vista comes with a notes widget/gagdet. By default. Even the home basic version.

I fooled around with leopard again in class today. Some complaints:

Is it just me or is there no maximize button? I couldn't get a window to fit the screen unless I dragged it from the bottom right edge. I was also disappointed to find that the cursor did not change to a "resize" cursor when I moved it over the edge of a window.
There isn't a button that maximizes any and all windows, but in a lot of applications option+clicking the green button maximizes as it would in windows. Normally the green button maximizes vertically, i.e. maximizes without "wasting" screen space. For the apps I want to always have maximized (like Safari) I just drag it open once and it stays that way forever.
Mouse movement sucks hardcore! It's like acceleration is enabled by default or something... But I couldn't find any acceleration options under the mouse preferences, just movement speed. When I move the mouse slowly, the cursor barely moves on screen. I suppose it's good for graphics development because you can really pinpoint exact pixels, but for regular computer usage it sucks!
I've never noticed that on desktops, maybe it's just the mouse and settings you're used to on Windows? The trackpad on this laptop though works great, and I prefer it to any other computer maker's trackpads because it has multitouch. Tap with two fingers to right click, swipe with two fingers to scroll in any direction, swipe with three fingers to go forward and back between web pages, etc. It's not something you'll appreciate until you use it, same with small features like Expose.

Why does it have to be the opposite of windows with the location of the minimize and close buttons? Is there a way to change it? It's kind of annoying when you're used to a PC where the min/max/close buttons are always on the upper right.

No CTRL C/X/V to copy/cut/paste? You have to use the damn apple command button instead? Come on!
There's no native way to change the buttons, though I'm sure there's an app out there somewhere. It annoyed me at first too, but I got used to it after a day or so.

The command button is essentially the same as control on windows, any Ctrl + X shortcut on windows is in general Command + X on Mac. I never did figure out why they needed another, actual "control," but it's pretty sweet in that if you hold down control and swipe with two fingers on the trackpad, the entire screen zooms in an out. I can make this smiley face :) fill up the whole screen for example.

Because the vista version isn't EXACTLY the same as the mac version, and him being used to the latter probably warranted the effort in practically duplicating its functionality. That's just one option?

In your computer, duh.

You have probably never even seen what it does, much less gotten completely used to it, so don't tell me it's not useful. "a shortcut to keep from doing it yourself," what does that even mean, by that logic paint is a shortcut to keep from opening up gimp and doing it yourself.

Yeah, windows users just use the Taskbar... Kinda makes such a button useless to us...

That's your argument against Macs? You can't make images with them unless you download a free application, one with infinitely more functionality than paint? Wow I bet Apple's going to go out of business soon...

No, that's not my argument against Macs. It's my argument against relying on other companies to fix shortcomings.

You obviously don't even know what Garageband is, since you think it's for making movies. It is for making songs, something you would have to shell out possibly several hundred bucks on FL Studio to duplicate on windows. For edited videos, Mac has iMovie. Yeah, chat applications are a dime a dozen now, iChat stands out a bit though in letting you see and control your friend's desktop. Just a feature, but cool nonetheless.

You obviously don't know what Windows Movie Maker is. Its primary purpose is to make movies but that also involves sound. As such audio can edited using it.

Um Mac's have one too, it's not like things disappear when you minimize them, they just go to the dock.

Not having a sh*tty drawing application is not what most people would consider a "shortcoming."

They are COMPLETELY DIFFERENT can you input notes and sounds into Windows Movie Maker, does it have different synthesizers, do people USE it to compose and record SONGS, no they don't because they use it for MOVIES...

This thread is meant to be about the PC - Mac adverts, not a chance for PC and Mac usrs to argue about which is better. They both have different strong and weak points, so just accept it.

I wonder. Is there any "open-source" software for Mac-OS? And if so, does Steve Jobs approve?
Haha, yeah right. Probably not officially. After all, Steve Jobs took a flavor of UNIX, slapped some pretty graphics on it, and is charging $600 for a machine with $250 worth of parts.

Is it any wonder that since the switch from PowerPC to x86 that people are trying to make Hackintoshes? :p
