It's been 13 days.

First 3 days he was coughing NON STOP all day long, could not sleep well and told him to go to the doctors, but he waited 3 more days before doing it. He also had a cold. He is 1 month away till 56 years old and he's a BIG guy (5'10 and a half and like 386 lbls) and always yells at any and everything. Anyway 3 more days goes by and tell him to go to doctor because he still could not stop coughing and not sleeping much. He went to the doctors and she was very worried about his heart. She gave him pills to eat twice a day with food and he's not coughing nearly as much but when he comes upstairs he coughs all the time normally. Since he's been coughing for now 8 days he's lost his voice. Doctor will give us results in 2 weeks.

In the mean time....what are some things it could be? he's always had his flu shot but now he's retired and sits at home all day every day and didn't get his flu shot this year. I'm just guessing here but perhaps a respitory problem due to all that coughing?

Today at the theatre we were watching Pirates and he was wheezing and could not breathe. It's only been a week since he got checked out at the doctors. He does not smoke, either.

Was going to ask. He might have a stronger type of flu, pneumonia or some other ailment that affects the lungs. Has he been in a hospital recently? Have any tests been done to see if the presence of bacteria/virus can be found?

The people next door had a cold that lasted a month with non stop coughing. They had this when i was at their place for the bachlerette party but it never made me cough, could have brought it over.

edit- He told me they checked there and said they found nothing in his lungs. No he hasn't been to the hospital, he refuses.

Surprised they didn't see any inflammation in the throat or something along those lines. What about blood tests? Those are good for early warnings. Anyway, only a specialist can answer you properly. If he appears in bad shape than he's being silly. Most of the common infections will pass if an individual is healthy but some can cause complications.

Edit: Doubt it could be something like this. It is probably most common in the third world countries:

INTERESTING...

Now seriously, sounds like some kind of flu, or any kind of lung infection. I don't know much about this, though...

Tell him to quit ****in' around, my boss had the same deal and he's a stubborn son of a gun so he thought he'd fight it out... he hates doctors....

Turns out he had pneumonia and woke up unable to breathe one night, he had to have his wife call 911 for him because he couldn't even get a sentence out. He let it get so bad they induced a coma and hooked him up to all this crazy stuff for like 2 weeks. He hasn't been the same since, it definitely drained him.

Not here any more
Your dad is fat.
The fat will push on his inner body parts and make them work harder.
He sits around.
So his blood does not move through his body, to clean out the bad stuff.
Just shoot him and get it over with.

He probably has a chicken leg stuck in this throat. At nearly 400 lbs. he should be worrying about more than his heart.

I keep telling him to go on a diet but he always gives me that look. I told him these exact words"Why bother working untill you are 55 just so you can die a year or 2 later?". He said he will only if the doctors tell him to go on a diet. I'm overweight myself (220...5'10) but i been working out at the gym for 4 months almost and getting rid of it. I'm pretty sure it's as bad as it is with him right now because of his weight. Nobody likes a fatty! I guess his excuse is "I'm retired, i'll do whatever i want".

People tend to not do things when it's repeated to them :)

People can learn something by repetition but being told to do something time and again can annoy that inner child inside that wanted to grow up.
