This is my insight on the following terminology, because people get all in a tizzy over what's what. Feel free to disagree, but be detailed and explain why, 'cos I think this could be open to some discussion.
Camping = Sitting in a spot covering your own ass for a prolonged period of time
-If it has no objective or point, other than to be cheap, it's camping.
-Sitting in a spot forever with only one exit that isn't in an obvious spot in the map simply to pick off anyone who HAPPENS to come by.
Ambushing = Aquiring a target and setting a trap for it
-If you're moving with a friendly, and he turns a corner to get gunned down, an ambush would be falling back a bit, taking a little hiding spot and waiting for your attacker to move in to your trap, giving a mebbe 10 second safety net (the guy you just ambushed may have had a partner, too), then moving on. Be careful to watch for that partner that might be planning to ambush you as well!
-If you see (or hear?) a tango moving that doesn't see you, and you have the chance, going and setting up a tactical position to pick them off as they go through wherever they've revealed they're moving to.
-If you're organized, you can set up an ambush with several people, using bait, or simply just group defending a, or several, key area(s) (EAS Defenders are 90% of the time ambushing, the attackers being the logically "aquired target," since the Defenders know they will be coming.)
Sniping = Tactical long range attack, usually used while people on your team are sweeping people out for the sniper to pick off
-Think Tiger Hunt (almost all sniping)
-Or, for more specific smaller groups of snipers with sweeping friendlies, imagine CubanDawn on TDM. There is usually one or two guys up on sniper hill waiting to pick off anyone that decides to make the mistake of running out into the FOV of that hill.
The term "picking off" is usually associated with either sniping or ambush.
