Twilight - 1/10. I had to watch this in my Philosophy class. Holy crap, I thought this movie would be bad, but I didn't think it would be this bad. The dialogue was laughable and most of the movie was just plain annoying (the baseball scene stands out as the most annoying scene to me). Yeah, a bunch of vampires just show up and wanna play some baseball. That makes sense.

Why did they make you watch that crap?

Meh, he had the class try and find philosophical questions involved with the movie. Off the top of my head, one was, "Are vampires evil by nature or by how they are raised?"

He made up for it by saying that we won't be watching the other two movies. Aside from that, we get to watch House once every few days. We still have to answer philosophical questions from the episode, but it's so much better than Twilight. House FTW.

Well, it's philosophy. If you can write on a paper on "What is a chair" you can reflect on Twilight. On the other hand, the movie is shallow and known enough so you'd think there is really no need to watch the whole thing in class.

Terminator 8/10

Great action. A little weird with how the time travel thing works (makes it look like the future is predetermined, time travel included). I don't detract points for that, but it's a bit of a mindscrew.

In regards to the "evil or not" I think it depends on a few things. If the vampire is feeding only to survive and can do so without killing or wantonly turning humans, not so evil. If it's just to maim, kill and wreak havoc, then yea, evil

My GF and her mother both have issues with House, mostly in how long it takes them to diagnose a problem

It seemed more like certain "big" events are going to happen regardless, but when they happen is more flexible and that the smaller events can be more easily altered
This is looking at the entire film series, not just the first 2 or 3

You want a real mindscrew in regards to time travel, watch TimeCop and the TV series based on it
Near the end of the series they discover that the timeline everyone believed was "accurate" is in fact manufactured by a man from farther in the future.
Since he had made himself a part of history he was never picked up by their temporal scans. Made you wonder how one can be sure if their concept of history is genuine or not

I'm pretty sure he only chose the Twilight and House books because they were so cheap. All of the other class books are pretty expensive. :/

I don't think he's a fan of Twilight, tbh. For extra credit, he had the class write a few pages on why Edward was (in his own words) 'overbearing/a stalker/mentally deranged'. It would've been the easiest extra credit ever.

And I forgot to even do it.

Percy Jackson and the Olympians: The Lightning Thief: 3/10. I thought the characters were really likable, but the plot holes just bugged me, and the ending flat out sucked.

And how wouldn't the people at the casino notice that a guy with goat legs was walking around? You would think that someone would've pointed it out to everyone else eventually.

The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring: 8.5/10. Great movie. Pretty much everything about it was awesome. I think the main reason I liked it so much was because I could never really get into the books, and it just ended up being a great movie.

Dark City 5.5/10.

Oh dear! I'm afraid I'm going to have to disagree about this one. It's not without merit - very strong on the "Do I love you only because I remember loving you" question but other than that it's your standard issue dark Gotham. The tagline could have been "William Hurt is Commissioner Gordon".

Kiefer Sutherland was just annoying and the whole affair made as about much sense as, well, errr, The Matrix.

When all is said and done, I enjoyed The Matrix more.

More (and better, if derivative) action, the skit on the nature of reality might not have been done as well but it was done well enough and the whole affair exuded enough coolness to cure global warming (naturally, I exclude numbers 2 & 3 from these kind words:)).

I hesitate to say this but I also thought the characterisations in The Matrix superior to Dark City. In part, no doubt, that is a function of the greater running time of The Matrix but it is also a function of having a central character whose memory (and also it seems) personality have been wiped clean. No mean feat for an actor to present less emotion and personality that Keanu Reeves. I never felt any sense that the character was at any risk from either William Hurt's character or the baddies.

I suppose it was serendipity that caused the DVD to turn up in the local supermarket for 3GBP after I had been put off investigating Dark City by some astonishingly high online prices (one major UK retailer had the bluray on sale for 60GBP [90-odd USD]).

Some franchises end up with the third film in series being the worst but, in my opinion, this flick is possibly the best out of the three; the other two being pretty damn good as well.

Great action sequences and top shelf special effects are one thing but this movie is superbly scripted and the story is extremely well driven along with a lot of depth and subtext by great characterizations.

Kirsten Dunst remains supremely hot (at least in my eyes) and, being a Bruce Campbell, fan I always love his cameos in Sam's films.

The film was good, but how can you overlook these issues?

-Venom didn't have very much development time as a character

-The emo parker dance routine

-The general bloated nature of the movie. Too many villains

-The news cast during the finale - cringe worthy acting

Leviathan: 5-6/10

Weak and dissapointing sci-fi movie. Takes place at the bottom of the sea, at a depth of 4km. A crew of miners have nearly completely their 90 day shift and are eager to return to the surface. Then on the final day, one of them accidentally stumbles upon a sunken russian ship which harbors a "terrible" secret.

Once it's unleashed everything slowly but surely goes wrong. This movie features a deepsea monster, but it's far from terrifying. It started out fine, though. But once it manifested itself and grown to full size well...
Also mediocre acting (especially by peter weller), predictable storyline (who will survive and who most certainly will not), and an idiotic ending.
After their operations hub has been declared destroyed by the company on public news stations, some of them make it to the surface right. And guess what, there's no storm, what a surprise, and a rescue helicopter. But how. They were blocked by that bitch of a boss. And why did Ernie hudson have to die like that, after all the trouble they had gone through pff...
The knockout at the very ending didn't really make things right either imho.

Many elements were borrowed or copied from Alien and The thing. Some very blatant similarties (the nr. of crew members, names, appearances, certain people teaming up, medic going rogue etc.)

Dissapointing is the keyword imho.

I generally agree with your comments but I think the villains were necessary to drive the story.

They need to swap out Parker for the black spidey somehow. Giving the other dude the black suit makeover does that.

As for the dance routine I suppose that's show business.;)
Anyhow it sort of shows how Parker really runs off the rails by subverting the nature of his character as shy and unassuming.
I think that's what would generally be called "the sledgehammer approach".

In my opinion the underlying story and the way they bring it all back together really caps the series off well....... which means they really shouldn't make a fourth film anytime soon.

So I think he is still dreaming because we never see him leave the chemist's basement. Or maybe I am over analyzing it.

But IMO I think the whole movie is like Total Recall.

You are dumber than i even thought you were.

You cannot dream within a dream. This is why the sentry's were set up that way. You also cannot fall asleep in your dream. Again, this is why the whole adventure was set up that is why they needed a new architect to design it. Leo had obviously fell asleep and has a dream, so at the end of the movie we know it is real.

What the s***? So you're argument is only based on you thinking that you can't dream within your own dream? That's bulls***, I've had dreams like that even in real life.

Edit: Also, if what you say is true, then a bunch of the things in the movie would make no sense, like the wife killing herself, ect.
