Umm... Incredible acting (seriously the guy who played Wikus couldn't have done any better), directing/editing/pacing spot on, emotional musical score, very realistic down to earth atmosphere, a story that is deep enough to relate to real world segregation and racism. The guns are just the icing on he cake. Every moment of that movie had my eyes watering and my adrenaline pumping, hence why it was the first movie I have ever given a perfect 10 to. :)

Damn straight.

Domicile Conjugal. The fourth installment of the Antoine Doinel-series. He has finally settled down, or so it seems, until he changes jobs - and subsequently women - yet again. It's more of the same, but it still is very funny even while portraying the marriage of Antoine and Christine, excellently played by Jean-Pierre Léaud and Claude Jade, going to pieces in scenes often letting through glimpses of the underlying regret in both. 7/10

Sweetgrass. An excellent documentary and modern Western. The beginning is clearly showing the ending of an era. The film, giving a really believable insight into the life of traditional sheep farming, features lots of swearing, uncertainty, simply awesome panoramic views of the mountains and the gruel reality of animal farming. 9/10

Marin Blue. The "inbetween spaces" of vacancy have served as an inspiration for this movie, and in the photography of these it excels. The lives of the two main characters are similarly - or only seemingly? - vacant and while the story unfolds, more questions arise without, for the most part, being answered. While not being overly original, it manages not to be another young adult indie movie. It does, however, feature a great soundtrack. 7/10

The Visitor. Painting the picture of an elderly and cynic America, helpless when being put up against a young orient that doesn't play by its rules. America adapts, a little too quickly, and finds rejuvenation in the new friend. A positive and encouraging outlook on the state of humanity in the world, and a harsh case against the state of bureaucracy and politics in America. To quote from the movie: "It's just like Syria." 8/10

If you liked that one, you should watch The Station Agent.

I thought it was pretty cool that Sharlto Copley (Wikus) had never actually acted before, nor was it specifically his ambition to become an actor. He already nailed a role in the A-Team flick now though, so my prediction is we'll be seeing more of the dude.:)

Battlestar galactica 1980 episodes 1-3: they discover earth

What.....the......... One of my colleagues lend me this.
I've never seen these episodes. Glad I haven't. I wasn't too eager watching these, as the descriptions sounded utterly ridiculous. But my curiosity prevailed and heh... it was so bad it became somewhat amusing.
(I did watch the first galactica, back in the 80s)

And apparently some of galactica's children can leap up to 10-15 meters high etc.? It seems the show will be riddled with moronic fantasy in the likes of this?
I don't know which part cracked me up most. The flying bikes, the wooden acting "Hi. we made it" (to earth! Our ultimate destination! After crossing half the universe! lol!) and apparently it became such a trivial fact out of (starbucks' son?) dylans' mouth.....what a lousy actor he was. Heck, none of them excelled. And lorne green as adama... he was like a frail, old sissy. Terrible.

Or the trip back in time to ww2. Or cloaking their ships with the simple slogan "we'll just have to remember where we left them"... ho boy...
So many things to mock.

So glad there's the 21st century galactica series. What a difference in quality.

Master of Your Disaster
I watched Jennifers Body last night. It was not exactly what I expected, but I really enjoyed it. I will rate it 8 of 10. I think this movie had a unique plot. This may gain status as a cult type movie like Donnie Darko or Bubba Ho Tep.

I would have rated it higher, but it was missing some of what the trailer sort of promised. Ha Ha.

Jennifer's Body will never ever gain cult status, really. No way!

I'd still rate it 5/10, could have given it 6/10 if I had actually found that girl as hot as everyone else seems to think she is.

Dreamcatcher - 5/10

Yeah, I took the safe route for grading this one. I really have no idea what the hell I just watched for two hours. It has all the makings of a Steven King story (I never read the book), only dictated by someone who isn't actually King and doesn't have the grace that someone like Darabont or Kubrick has in telling a King story. But...I was oddly intrigued by this trainwreck. There were a lot of actors in it I liked and I just couldn't seem to look away. I've seen some terrible King adaptations in my time (The Langoliers, what the hell...) some that were just kind of bad (It, The Stand)...but this is in a league of its own. Some parts had me laughing so badly I couldn't breath (When Donnie Walhberg appears on screen as the retarded guy with Leukemia, this dark part of myself that's probably going to hell turned into a hyena high on laughing gas, and I actually scared my brother who ran into room thinking I was being electrocuted).

Yeah...

The Last Winter - 3/10

I watched it because Ron Perlman was in it, and then I just kind got stuck watching it cus Ron Perlman was it in. Bunch of people at an oil outpost in snowy Arctic fight angry ghosts of deer and other animals...that live in the oil. The last twenty minutes is basically unwatchable. Not the first time a film has butchered the Wendigo myth (they mention it in Ravenous, the best feel good cannibal movie of the last half century, but it really had little to do with it).

5 out of 10? that's pretty harsh

I think Megan Fox looks like a bad porno actress, but still rate it high. That movie was all about Amanda Seyfried, and had just that right mix of Screamesque hilarious violence, and 'mean girls' style bitchingly good insults.

Cult classic maybe not though.

It's so long since I've seen this movie I've forgotten a lot of the plot detail. That being said I actually enjpyed it for a bit of light thrill ride through the supernatural.

Whoopie Goldberg does add some spice to the mix with her performance which really plays a bit like a female Eddie Murphy.

Demi Moore is hot.................. 1980's hairstyles and fashions were not, even back then when they were the in thing.

George Clooney night, apparently...

The Men Who Stare at Goats - 6/10, Kinda disappointing. With actors like Kevin Spacey, Jeff Bridges, George Clooney and Ewan McGregor I expected a really good movie but this wasn't. Story isn't very interesting or exciting either.

Up In The Air - 8/10, Very good. George Clooney did one of his best roles ever. The only thing that drags down my grade a bit is the story while being good written tends to get boring in some parts of the movie.

Michael Clayton - 8.5/10, again very good. George Clooney fit the role but Tilda Swinton stole the movie in her scenes.
