LODsetting of 2 is VERY blurry; I'm surprised your eyes arent falling out:rolleyes:

What are your sound settings? Are you using 3D sound?
Also, which DirectX version do you have installed?

High detail with dynamic lighting, fog, coronas etc on...

On a P3 500, with 256ram, 32mb GF2 GTS, fairly recent drivers set to maximum speed.

It looked a bit blurry. I went to 1 and it looks fine.
DX 8.1.

Not using 3D sound.

It just seem like anything I change makes very little difference.

and my video card shares IRQ with the onboard LAN card. I f I knew how to fix that....might get a few more FPS out of it.

Things like vertex fog is really obvious. I think that anything over 100fps is lost is the monitor refresh rate so that you aim to set more eye candy when you go above this. Some setting make the picture "warmer" and less flat. When all the options under the [direct3d] tab in the unrealtournament.ini file are turned on apart from use video memory only and 32-bit textures (uses DXTC otherwise) the min frame rate playing with 9 bots and shooting all over the place inexcessive CTF was 45fps. Having said that with minimal settings and looking at a wall it got 207fps in one instance!

Okaydoky Rooster - I'll do some benchies with first all extras off and then all extras on. Cityintro benchmark would miss some of the subleties though I fear. I have the thunder demo and I may do some benchies of this too. This is partly for my own benifit. I never knew UT was so pretty!

Here are the results!
CHeck my profile for system specs.

Radeon drv 9005 (later than 7206, ofcourse (win9x))
As per my config files:
"min settings" 9428 frames in 84.79 sec.
min 62.01
max 194.03
avg 11.19

"max settings" 6210 in 84.78
min 20.22 (poor)
max 163.32
avg 73.24

"min settings" + triple buffer + multitexture 10029 in 84.73
min 71.98
max 188.13
avg 118.35

As above + vertex fog (the effect seen in max was not seen here)
9981 in 84.64
min 77.06
max 216.83
avg 117.91
(next max 223.24)

I will run at the third setting of the four since I could see no difference between them and the third gave me over 10000 frames rendered in 85 seconds.

I will bench the thunder demo available from voodoo extreme -> the reverend's pulpit.

Following on from the last post I tested trilinear filtering in UT (also removed vertex fog as I said in last post).
9273 in 84.69 min 37.69 max 207.89 avg 109.48
(extra settings not given before : min desired frame rate is 8fps i.e. not affecting any result, 8kHz sound, no digital music, use hardware 3d sound, no filter reverb ( available in preferences ))

Now I add in 48kHz sound
9990 frames in 84.65 min 72.03 max 216.90 avg 118

Now I ttry the thunder demo which is funny at the speed it runs at, its like fast forward :D.

"Min settings" + tripple buffer + multitexture ( and the 48kHz sound from last test) 9262 in 63.67 min 106.28 max 273.61! avg 145.45

Wow 273.61fps becha never thought you'd see that! Ofcourse completely useless unless you can tell the difference between 270 and 100 fps and also your monitor has to run at 270 too.

Just to go for it a bit though I may know see if smoothvision can hammer my framerate in the cityintro benchmark. Try at 6x first.

Attached is the demo and you must have later than UT v427.

Nice res - with what monitor? Look here for info on irq problems even though its not your motherboard the technical information still applies.

http://www.viahardware.com/faq/kg7kr7/installation.htm#How do I avoid IRQ conflicts?

Read here. I can't tell you straight what to do because I didn't need to read it. Would lowering your sound card's irq number stop occasional crackling (from only the older pair of speakers I have)?

I see that it is not as simple as moving PCI slot. This may help there is such a thing as IRQ steering which is supposed to allow modern pci cards to share irqs. For example on the KR7A the Highpoint controller shares an interupt with the fifth pci slot period.

I have a Phillips 109B moniter.
and I don`t play at that resulution I just ran the test there....however I have tryed it in game....but would rather not run the moniter at max resolution for gaming as I`m sure it will shortin the life of the moniter.
Acording to that link you posted...sharring IRQ`s is "OK". besides the two that are sharring with me are the video card and the on board LAN card....kinda hard to move one or the other to a diffrent slot!! :p

Quick question. Im running:

p3-500
384 RAM
tnt2 m64 32meg NVIDIA

I am currently debating on whether to try to upgrade this with a new vid card, or just start from scratch with a new system. Meaning, I don't want to bother upgrading processor or motherboard, just add a better card in.

Would this make a any difference? I mean I've heard that UT is dependant on cpu (from what I've read in this thread).. so would throwing in, say a geforece ti200 do much or am I just wasting my time?

I guess I could always take it back if it sucks, but I thought I'd poll the intelligent ppl of this thread first :)

thnx!

Hmm, lets see.. 3-5fps for a card thats running $186 + shipping on buy.com.. that comes to about $48 per additional frame.

ugh.

Dell refurbished site here I come!
