I dunno if I asked this before so I will ask again.

I get **** fps always in this game and I don't know why.

My system is 2.4 ht cpu, abit ic7-g max 2advance mobo, at radeon 9700 pro vid card, and I got 2 gigs of ram.

I get above 60 fps on 2k3 with things maxed out. However I have some serious problems with xmp (and u2 for that matter). I when I boot it up I get 150 fps in the title screen, then about 50 in the menu screen. As soon as I go into the server browser it drops below 30. In game it stays around 25, and ocassionaly plumits to about 15 :( (resulting in mass suckage on my part)

So I adjusted the detail resolution and all that good stuff. No joy, no matter what the settings are my fps remains the same :hmm:

I read the article on atri forums about my card being in pci mode, but I can't out where on that sphere test I would find out, nor do I have the slightest clue how to change it if it was.

First, take out 1 GB of RAM. It's been proven that memory bandwidth/performance is lowered with over 4 banks (banks, not sticks) of memory installed. Secondly, make sure that your video card doesn't have anisotropic filtering (AF) or anti-aliasing (AA) enabled. Other than that, I don't know what it would be.

Edit: I run XMP with 4xAA and 8xAF at 1024x768x32 with all the settings up. I get about 25 FPS sometimes dipping to 15, like you described, on a roughly equivalent system:
Pentium 4 2.4A @ 2.61 GHz
512 MB PC-3200 DDR
Radeon 9600 Pro @ 533/700

I get ~40 FPS with no AA or AF. Essentially, AA and AF require your computer to draw each frame more than once, causing it to slow down. Mediocre memory bandwidth really limits my FPS rate's ability to go any higher.

My system:

P4 2.53GHz
1 gig'o'RAM (DDR333)
Radeon 9700

I get ~50fps avg on XMP (1024x768, max details)

The key to get those high fps was for me to install Catalyst 4.1, it gave me a 20fps boost (dont ask me why).

After the patch, I get about 50 fps. I averaged about 20 before hand, so big improvement.

Ironicy, if you're looking for spheremark...

http://developer.nvidia.com/object/SphereMark.html

It's supplied by Nvid.

Using a 1.2 duron processor, 1 gig of ram and an ati 9600 non pro and get about 30 to 40 frames per second at 800x600 with max detail with small games. My fps drops when there are a load of players on the sever due to model poly count. That's when I just drop texture detail and such and get back to good rates. I need to upgrade my mother board rather soon to an anthlon 2500+ processor.

Do not get the 5200 or 5600 FX cards. Go with the 5700 (5750) or 5900 ultras if you can flip the cash. I use either Ati or Nvidia and had little problem with both. But I currently need a new processor. That's my major problem.
