I think it fits in that sense and it works well for both developer an publisher. Believe me... Epic wouldn't do anything to its game that it didn't want to do. They could have gone with any publisher easily, but chose Midway, and I'm sure they have full control over their ip.
In my opinion, it wouldn't surprise me for Midway to place a couple of ads in the game -- and frankly I don't really care all too much.
I know, this is odd coming from the person who groans in annoyance at the advertisements every time he puts his damn BigLebowski DVD in his Xbox... but advertisements in videogames CAN be done correctly if its implemented correctly.
What's going to turn people off is if it leaps around like a Jack Russell Terrier making damn good and sure it got your attention. Video ads in the round loading screen? No. An ad on a single isolated subway poster? Whatever. A newspaper on a bench with an ad on the page? Whatever.
If the savings are passed to the End-User even if its just 10$ off, go ahead with the non-intrusive ads. But if the price-point of games are still going to rise and if the advertisements will hump your eyesockets -- no.
... and if they invade mods? Go **** yourselves.
