Xbox.ign.com posted their review of the cell-shaded UbiSoft tactical shooter, XIII:
XIII has a great story-driven sheen, but at it's core, it's weighed down by some occasional bewildering flaws, in addition to the lackluster weapons and simple combat we usually see in lesser productions. Perhaps if the enemy AI had had just a little more self-defense capability, instead of generally standing and shooting, it would have been better. Other games have gotten away with this by using large numbers of foes and/or unique, satisfying weapons, or multiple ways to achieve a goal. Without these elements, XIII is a fun but linear play-through with middle-of-the-road AI.
Also, HomeLan posted their own impressions:
Unfortunately, the graphics and the comic book features are really the only things that distinguish XIII from the very crowded FPS genre. We played a several level build of the single player game a couple of months ago and were hopefully the full game would come together but it now looks like the developers didn’t know quite what to do with their premise. It’s not a bad game at all but it also doesn’t do much gameplay wise to draw you in to play more. You fight bad guys, you fire machine guns and weapons, and there are a few spy type things you get to do like rappel down with a grapple but after it’s all said and done you feel like you have played games like this before. The multiplayer aspects of XIII on the PC also are like the single player version; it’s certainly serviceable but it’s certainly not memorable.
Hey, most reviewers panned "Matrix: Revolutions", but in the end, it wasn't so bad after all - worth the price of admission. Have you played XIII yet? Post your comments!
