I recently played my friend's copy of UT3 for the Xbox 360 and fell in love with the game. (One quick question: is UT3 a good improvement over 2k4? Do some still prefer 2k4 or earlier, or is UT3 clearly superior?) (I'm a long time fan of both Unreal and UT) So, now I want to get the game :) Problem is I have both a 360 and a fairly fast computer, and I don't know which I should get. I hate computer lagathons but by going to the Xbox i would sacrifice all the community's maps and mods :(
So, my question here is this: Is my computer going to be strong enough to handle UT3 fluidly and without slowing.
Here are my computer specs:

Make: Dell
Model: XPS ONE
Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Quad CPU Q8200 @ 2.33GHz (that means four cores I think)
RAM: 4.00 GB
System Type: 32-bit OS
It runs Vista and I have service pack 2 (if that's relevant)

My one problem here is I don't know how to find out what I have for a graphics card. If someone could point me to it, that would be helpful :)

Anyway, thanks alot

I prefer 2k4 and UT99, but if you liked playing it, it should not matter what I think. Get the PC version, I don't foresee you having to many issues

It should run just fine.

What graphics card do you have?

And I'd definitely get it for the PC. The ammount of extremely high quality custom content you would miss on Xbox would be a shame. The only problem is that the game isn't that active online anymore. Not many people play it nowadays. The bots are better than in 2k4 tho.

Not active anymore? Wow. That kinda sucks. I just got a nice computer and some space in my life for the new games and I was kinda amped. Maybe I should stick with 2k4. Just on the curious side: Are the older games still active? That would be kinda cool to play UT GOTY again. I guess I could borrow my friend's xbox copy and play it on live and do the computer thing with 2k4. I don't know about everyone else but I just can't make myself play against bots XD. Oh! One last bit: Where do I go to see what kind of graphics card I have? Thanks for replying :)

All UT installments (save XMP and UT2003) are active enough to play them for years to come. Relax on that. Be it UT1, UT2004 or UT3 - you'll find populated servers for these.

Oh, ok. The earlier comment kinda got me down. I'm a huge fan and I'd hate to see their latest game go down that quick :) Thanks for replying

Yeah...PC is definitely where it's at. Especially since you can get into the modding and mapping community that way. We need to keep the game alive, and the only way to do that is to grab a PC version, and possibly join up with 3D Buzz and learn how to mod and map for it (speaking of which, I gotta get off my duff and get reinventing Galacticus Prime).

I have no modding/programming skills, but I have played around with the original UnrealED making little deathmatch maps here and there. I would, however, like to learn to use this new editor and become more active in the community. I might even touch on modding (I am taking a basic programming course in the fall) although I don't know the first thing beyond maybe modifying the statistics of what's already there :) What is 3D Buzz? I think UT3 comes with a set of Editor tutorials. If I'm right, then I'll probably start there. I want to get into the modding/mapping community because so much amazing stuff comes from these players. Anyway, I think I'm gonna end up with the PC version. Too much to miss out on with the Xbox. Thanks alot :)

I think the UT 2004 Onslaught servers are much more populated and active overall than the UT3 Warfare servers. At least they were last I checked.

I played UT3's Warfare for a couple months and ended up going back to UT 2004. Warfare just can't compete with the player counts and variety of custom maps on UT 2004. Personally, I think the UT3 vehicles are inferior to those of the UT 2004 vehicles in terms of their feel, making Onslaught a better game.

UT3's CTF isn't bad but few people seem to play that online. I can't speak for the Deathmatch.

But what do you need my opinion for? For $5-10 you might as well just go see UT3 for yourself. Be sure to load it up before you patch it (unless you get an updated version) so that you can get a sense of what it looked like out-of-the-box. You will probably be shocked when you see how pathetic the UT3 user interface and server browser is compared to that of UT 2004.

Ok, I think what I have is Intel(R) G45/G43 Express Chipset
Is that an ok drive or is that what you meant by "Intel Graphics"?

The Dell XPS ONE is like the iMac, it's an all in one desktop PC without a tower. The monitor has the computer stuff inside it. So, it's more like a notebook than a desktop. These are several versions, the high end version used the ATI mobility 2400 graphics.
