Did anyone see the coverage in XBox Magazine's demo disk this month? It had the trailer, plus a several minute long walkthrough of the game. It showcased everything from weapons to maps to moves and characters.

It's a pretty in depth look at the game. It looks pretty sweet.

I want it now. Snail mail it to me. :)

Let me finish playing all the demos on if first!

(btw, if you have an xbox and don't subscribe to this mag, you should. It's only $30 for 12 issues, and you get a demo disk with every issue. Not to mention, it's a great mag.)

slap a stamp on, insert in mail now! ;)

j/k...:)

I should but $30 is over my budget right now

Sometimes they have it for $5.99 at Gamestop. Rarely, though. It took me a year to find the disk with the DoA3 costumes on it.

edit: the date on EB Games is 2/8. I'm glad it's AFTER Christmas :)

I don't know if I made it clear or not, but it's $30 for the entire year, not per month.

But yeah, being a newlywed, $30 is probably hard to come by. I just thought I'd clarify the cost.

A few things I remember from the disk (I'd imagine some of this is already common knowledge):

1) both fps and melee/hand to hand combat, with the viewpoint switching to 3rd person for melee
2) you can have combo moves in melee, and string hits together
3) differnet characters with have different abilities (strong and slow, nimble and quick, etc) and be better at different kinds of fights
4) all the weapons are revamped. For instance, the shock looks more like a cross between the shock and the ltg, and you're able to "freeze" the secondary fire in mid air, place several of them around, then combo them all at once. The Ripjack makes an appearance
5) you spawn with dual pistols, and the pistol types are specific to the species. I don't remember the species types, but one had dual "rivot guns" and I think I saw one with the pistols from Unreal 2.
6) They said something along the line of having to choose one type of mechanical weapon (rox, flak, etc) and one type of energy weapon (shock, ltg, etc) before you start a match.
7) The goo has changed in that the little puddles from the primary are ambient, in other words, they don't just lie around, but will actually chase you
8) there's a kind of assisted "lock on." It's not a lock and shoot type thing, but rather, it points you in the general direction, and you have to still aim. This is to counter the lack of control that plegues fps on consoles. Melee mode, though, is 100% lock on, so that you just have to concentrate on timing the hits and such.
9) There's a little bit of Mortal Combat flavor to the game in the melee fights
10) the maps and graphis look quite good
11) it appears that this was taking place at some sort of sneak peek thing. Someone was standing up and talking through the clips to an appearant audience, and he kept hinting that they were about to try the game out
12) in melee, you are given a shield to counter enemy fire. It's looks kinda like the effect from the sheild gun in 2k4, but it reflects fire and bounces it back.

I'll post more later if I think of more. Remember, I'm doing this based on memory. Don't crucify me if I'm not entirely correct.

at your behest I purchased the magazine at Babbage's. It was $10, so I feel ripped off. The card inside says "24.95 for 12 issues/12 Discs".

Ugh!!

I'll watch the video hopefully tonight!

holy heck Ren....I'm definitely buying this game after watching that vid.

Did you see the part where the guy wall dodged three times to get up onto a ledge? This game's gonna rock (not like UC that was mediocre).

If it's the thing that's been on the net for a while, I've seen the video (guy from epic talking about the changes and stuff).

There's a playable demo in the March issue of OXM, which I'll have to buy to get, unfortunately. The mag sucks (they still claim there are no patches on Xbox Live, when practically every single XBL game that accepts content downloads has been patched, and UC and Capcom Vs. SNK 2 EO were the first to get patched), and the demo disks are about the only thing worth having it for... and even then they aren't always worth it (for most of the Mag's first year the best demo they had on each disk was Halo (the original).. and that was a demo for 11 months in the mag).

Still, by the time the demo comes out, I might have my review copy from Midway... with any luck anyway. :p

Um, I saw it in August or September. Might have been September, it was around the same time that the Mortal Kombat: Deception developer video happened from Midway.

Then again, because I am in gaming media, I look for stuff like this earlier, plus there's the press videos on Midway's press site and other developer sites. But it was on the net before the OXM disk, just maybe not as easily found.
