Thats actually pretty funny. Funny enough to suggest you ALL sign up for Unreal T Mail!!! It's a pop server, so you can access it from Yahoo! Mail, Hotmail, Eudora, Outlook, etc. Remember if its not Unreal T Mail, its something else!!! This is brought to you in part by:
Neuroflare, the owner of the biggest ball of twine in Minnesota.
AND

Blah!

I got an e-mail nagging me to sign up for Unreal T mail with a list of reasons why I should. None of them seemed too good... Maybe I would if you bought me a twelve ton pumpkin.

I got not one but TWO annoying emails. And guess who sent them to me...

GUESS WHO SENT THEM! WHAT EVIL PERSON SENT NOT ONE BUT TWO ANNOYING EMAILS TO ME?

Actually, the reasons were good for me so I signed up. But I am probably never ever going to use the account. I have an @planetunreal for goodness sake!

HAHA i have many good reasons

I have a million good reasons to sign up for, and use Unreal T mail:

1. Use it for business (or non business (non business in dragonflys case)) because who wants to recieve email from some Yahoo! club, or other non business subject at there all-important planetunreal email address???
2. ITS POP3!!! What could be better than a pop3 email address? You can check it from yahoo, hotmail, eudora, outlook, ANYWHERE!!! So it isnt an inconvenience because to you.
1,000,000. Its provided by a friend.

PLUS!!! If you sign up today, you my be eligble to sample THE CHEESES OF THE WORLD* courtesy of Neuroflare and Unreal T main, so SIGN UP TODAY!!!

All members of Unreal T main are crrently eligible to recieve cheeses of the world.*

*Cheeses of the world do not really exist so you probably wont win, but i may send you some gum.

No

I got two, too. They were both exactly the same, only in one, everything was indented, and in the other, they weren't and the link was useable (as apposed to just text displaying the adress). And I'm still not convinced! I read the fine print! I know what you're doing! Ya bum! Now you will be forced to consume RADDISHES for the REST OF YOUR LIFE! Doesn't that sound TERRIBLE!? RADDISHES!!! FOR THE REST OF YOUR LIFE!!! AAHH!!

Yeah...

I put the fine print there to avoid lawsuits... Anyways... If that doesnt convince you, then i will try one last thing. Will you please sign up for Unreal T mail? It's (as I said before) a POP3 address, so it isn't inconvenient to check because its accessable through Outlook, Eudora, even Yahoo! and Hotmail. This way, when you check one email, you can check your Unreal T mail also. PLUS noone has your screen name yet (unless your screen name is Neuroflare or Webmaster). So sign up if you want, there wont be anymore huge ads (i cannot be held to that last statement). Have a good day, and I still think we (i think of wod as family, but only because this is the only forum I look at) change to a percentile/subrating system.

Naw

Percentiles are too complicated. The reviewer has to go, "Duh... 83%, or 86%...? I da know, I'll jus' stick in 5% cuz I da know." An' then the reader hasta go, "Hmmmmm, Is a 79.102948652790465% worth downloading? I'm all confused!" But w/ the Us, ya jus' got 5 thingies, not 100, simplifying the entire process to, 2.5, 3.5, an' 4.5 (notice that whole numbers of Us are not allowed). See? And then there's the almighty 'Cheese Award' that the U system allows.

good point, but not good enough

But then when you play it you say... this isn't a 90% (cause 4.5 is the equivalent of 90%), its more of an 85% (thats actually a pretty big difference). The percentiles are also like a grade. If someone would come up with a standard scoring checklist. Lets say you can score a mod on 10, or perhaps 5 criteria (lets use dragonfly's: graphics/sound/presentation/fun/gameplay/overall) each has 10 different choices: 0=nonexistent (for comedy and harsh truth) 9:perfect (maybe 1-10, but 0-9 works later on). Lets say a mod got 6/4/8/7/5 (respectively). Now for the overall, average them. so overall = 6. add them and multiply by 2. 72. this mod would get a 72 percent. Present all that info and the person can better judge if they want this mod. Its simple, effective, and employs basic math skills. Addition, division, and multiplication, and the concept of finding the mean a set of number. If you end up with a decimal, round it. This idea works, and i came up with it on the fly.

Yeah oh!?

Well, corn if frequently just left on its cob! They don't even bother to take it off da cob! Can you believe such lazyness!? I'm surprised that they ever even bother to remove the husk! Does not that disgust you!?

Oh yeah, and that sounds like a fair compromise to me.

In New Zealand, we are changing to a new grading system. One property of this system is that instead of you getting a mark when you do a maths test, you only get a grade of either

No credit
Credit
Merit
Excellence

Now, that sounds like a fine system... but Let's say I did a really good assignment. A really good one. Stefan, my arch rival does a 4-hour copypaste. We both get Excellence. But because I don't get my percentage I can't tell if I did better than him. So I never get to brag about how good I am and are forced to treat him as an equal.

In mods it isn't so important, but on a 56k downloading something like ChaosUT or U4E is a big investment, so I want to know which is best. Also, as new versions of mods are released you can give them slight improvements in ratings. In a 5 star system you might have to give several versions of a mod an identical rating even though they are obviously improving.

I'm sick of arguing about this. I'm going back to my original "I don't care," cuz either way, the stuff'll get reviewed. Personally, I pay more attention to the written stuff than the actual score.
