Over the past few weeks, I've been considering switching WoD review scoring system completely over to the 5 U (10 half Us) system (as opposed to Us for mutators and percentiles for almost everything else) Personally I think the U system is much simpler to use and easier to comprehend, not to mention a consistent scoring method.
What do you guys think?

uuunnngggg!

Yes, I realize that is the sound one would make if kicked in the cohonez (or the corect spelling, sounded out, its ku-hone-ays), but i will use it to express my views of the U's (kinda rhymey, isn't it?). I never really took too much of a shinin (Willy-"You've got the shinin' boy!" Bart-"Don't you mean 'the shining'?" Willy-"SSHH!!! You wanna get sued?"-The Simpsons)to the U's. I'm more used to PC Gamer's (god bless the vede) rating system, percentiles. 80's being really good, 90's being great, and 100 being impeccable (no game is yet to recieve 100, not even Half-Life, U and UT got mid 90's I believe, and the DAMNED Quake III Arena (I dare say it's full name) took a MERE 80% HAHAHAHA!!!). I think the whole system should follow in the footsteps of this great magazine (for being one of the few publications to slap id down) and switch to the percentile system, which I whink, is much more simple than the U's. (MOM!!! Guess what?!?! I got FIVE U's on my spelling test!!!) End transmission.
Don't forget to visit my web page (no files yet, put if it works there's bitchin music from Deus Ex http://neuroflare.tripod.com/ or email me by pressing the little email button or neuroflare@qwest.net

I agree with Neuro.

a) PCGAMER IS THE KING

b) PERCENTAGES ARE GOOD.

But since WoD only reviews good mods, be more harsh than pcg. A 70% from pcg should be 50% from wod. OR not.

Ayway, u's cannot convey a lot of information besides "worth getting/not worth getting". I personally don't like them.

I also like haveing subratings, eg

Overall

graphics/sound/presentation

Fun/gameplay

something else I've forgotten. Origonality perhaps.

Because some great mods are graphically dumb, and some really awesome looking mods aren't fun.

Even if it isn't fun, it should get to show that its models and sfx are awesome.

Also, I really want user comments. Really. Want. Go steal the code from Modsquad.

you all have a good point. especially smoke... err... except him :p
personally I just feel percentiles are over done.... I like movie ratings.... 5 Stars.....
But you guys are right about percentiles ssaying more...

As to your comments DragonFly... I cannot start being more harsh on mods, because it would not be right to go back and readjust all the past scores, and I like all the scores to be relative to the others.....

Also, next time I talk to good old Kobain, I'll have him work up a comment system. I think one like Nali City's would be better than ModSquads.

Finally, I'll have the reviewers start doing subscores on sound & stuff. Gimme a while to work up a good new review system. Until I do, things are gonna be a bit messy :)

I haven't been to nalicity much. going now.

Good, sounds like your taking control and messing things about - what everyone should do when they take over. Actually, you could have left it alone but messing about is ok.

Q

If you think 5 is not detailed enough, look at that movie critic guy! He rates movies on a 4 (FOUR) star scale! So a 3 1/2 is really good! EW! Five is greater than four! Why have I not put "the answer's five" in my sig yet!? I say it all da time! An' what about "Q!?" How do you spell "Q!?" Que? Ckyuoew!? HOW!? Beware the wallnuts! Their gonna eat us ALL! AAAAAAHHHH!!!!!!!!! We're all gonna die!! My spoon is too big! WHY!?

I could just leave it alone, but I want all things to be reviewed on a single consistent scale.... I want WoD to be great and mighty!

errrr.... and Smoke's got a point... movie critics only use 4 stars.

GARUNGA!!

Individual review would be great. Kinda like at Newgrounds, they have an overall rating, and a bunch of subratings. Newgrounds is great. Everybody like martial arts and flash movies? Goto http://www.newgrounds.com/portal/ It has a great movie called something like XIAO XIAO 3. It's under the 50 greatest of all time. I suggest that everybody hightail it over there RIGHT NOW and check it out. Excellent peice of work.

The following post is rated 3 on the Dragonrating system...

I'm hightailing it over there...

Oh, movie critics use 4 stars for one of two reasons:

1) They don't have the mental strength to choose from more than 4 options (Remeber, these guys aren't game reviews who have to make decisions as they 'watch')

2) They are actually using 5 stars, but they have never thought that a movie deserves 5 stars.

WoD can do better than that....

Actually, if you want to go with minimal ratings, I would recommend giving them names like my Dragonrating system:

1) You will like it.
2) You might like it.
3) Don't bother.

Or something. Also, I want either a list sorted by rating or a list of only the good mutators or something.

If its easy to pick out the good mutators off the main list it dosen't matter, but your mutator list is 3 pages, if you had a list of only the best it would only have to be 1 page.

ah yes.... complex scripting..... I'm hoping Kobain will whip up all this for me (or I can find someone else to do it)

Also, I'll do a sorted by rating option for the mutator listings page.
The other reviews will have to wait for this great device until I have the system rating things consistently.

Pork on a stick!

What'd be really great is if you could somehow incorporate cheese into your reviewing system. That way it, uh... Would have cheese incorporated into it!
