You said you added a damage bar, what exactly happens when your fully damaged (or all your health is gone?). Other than speed or control loss, would there be a point where the car completely stops or fails all together?

Your accelleration and speed is factored down based on the amount of damage you have taken - down to a maximum of 20%. Even at that level, you can make it up any hills you could normally (so the reduced power doesn't end up getting you stuck anywhere you wouldn't normally), and you can still pick up very good speeds heading down hills and when using turbo.

The idea is not to knock out of the race completely - just to make it a little more challenging, and to promote better driving without actually ruining your chances if you do get a little too damaged.

YEZ-YEZZZ, comming along nicely. The new GUI looks great. Are you going to make a .UMOD for this version/patch? Or is it going to be a full install again?
I would assume this will have to be a full version update, Unless the patch moves all the current UnWheel files out of there current folders and into a new one ;), but maybe im wrong .

ps this is sounding very cool shrimp :D

uber-coolage

where do you get the image from?

will we have to include a static mylevel.screenshot from now on? or are we using a different filename e.g. mylevel.loadingscreen?

The blurry background is just an image of the garage. The screenshot is taken from MyLevel.Screenshot. If MyLevel.Screenshot is a MaterialSequence, it takes the first frame from the sequence :). I also overlay a shadowy border over the screenshot to blend it better with the surroundings of the loading screen.

No extras needed ;).

This is good .. cause before you could bounce around the map like a pinball and still win :)

Exactly :)

I've gotten lucky on occasion and blasted away through tracks by not driving carefully at all - practically bouncing off the walls the whole way through... I get good lap times when I do that :p. The crash impacts often tend to give you a bit of a boost :D.

HUmmmmmmm............been a while sence we've had the pleasure of UnWheeling with you....You should join the burnouts again sometime soon.
Hard to pimp a game if the maker never plays it......I have seen a small increace of players in the last week or two though. 1-2 times a week I check to see if there are any mew servers. I'm finding a few that run UW & VCTF on the same server.
I'll start gathering IP's that I find running UW and start posting the address for everyone here. 75% are dedicaded (UW/VCTF).

Unfortunately that's kind of hard for me... The burnouts are at around 2-4 AM my time on a Sunday night / Monday morning, it's unplayable with a 600-800 ping, and half the month I have no international internet access :p.

If the burnouts could be held at 8PM GMT or earlier, I'd be happy to join and at least spectate and take some promo shots ;).

Anyway, back to the patch: Something that's almost done, is an online 'best lap' database.

This adds an extra dimension to single player Racing, as rather than just playing against bots or zipping around the track enjoying the scenery, you can play time trials, in an attempt to beat the 'world record' lap time for a specific map. :D.

The records (which record the player name, vehicle used, date, and lap time) will be browsable in-game, as well as on the UnWheel site.

I'm not quite sure if this will work too well in multiplayer yet - could someone give me some feedback on how lap times are working out online?

The saturday ones are at 11:30-2am EASTERN time. I dunno about the Sundays ones.... but I was on around 10pm EASTERN last night on my server and there was 6 people on. :) If you all want to organise more times to have burnouts go ahead... your more than welcome to use my server for them because if I see a bunch of people on and I got time... I'll probably hop in myself ;)

Awsum idea!!!! I'll try to keep note of (my) lap times, but that sounds like it would need to be a server side app. I can say that I did notice a lap time diffrance from the last UW to MSU. In Alldreas I could do a lap in under a minute, I think my best was 54 seconds. In MSU, I've never broke the minute mark. I think my best in MSU was like 1:04 (used the Flare-F1).
Perhaps you can make a Turnament/Elimination mode, like they use in Drag racing, but apply it to Rally maps. Only 2 race at a time, the looser goes into spectator mode, and a new player replaces him. Kindda' like a "Rally Arena" game ;)

That would be pretty cool :D Or how about a knock out? As many laps as people and if your last for a lap you are out. Now that would be f*ckin sweet!!! ;)

Just wondering, how will this work with custom maps?

Works with all Race or Rally maps, nothing special needs to be done.

It just sends a message to the 'server' (this'll be a PHP script hosted here on unwheel.beyondunreal.com), containing the map, best lap time, player and vehicle. The script just adds a record to it's database using that info. So it would even accept UWRC-MyFirstCube, assuming it was set up properly for racing with checkpoints and stuff :p.

If stupid things start to show up, it's easy enough to add filters and things to prevent them from being recorded.

BTW I got the lap times in multiplayer corrected too :p

Yup

It's so you can play 'offline', but rather than just racing, you try to beat everyone elses records. You are offered the option of recording your lap time, so you don't have to if you play offline really offline (on internet or whatever), or if you just want to mess around or whatever.

But for those who want to 'compete', in their own time, without needing to find an online server, the option is there.
