It could of been a aimpoint, or reflex, or one of those nifty night-vision things, perhaps.

It is a Trijicon reflex sight most likely. And just because someone labels their show a documentary, does not make it 100%. Tons of publicity shots are done with 20 lbs of uber attachments on their rifles, just to make themselves look super high speed. Just please, stop trying to defend your favorite loadout as something realistic. Those of us who do this **** for a living are telling ya something here. Play with it, fine, I don't care. Just stop insulting our intelligence, please.

I wish I could have added my comments before the disscussion got derailed, but here it goes.

Why don't people like RA? People don't like it because it's different. People are always going to complain anytime something changes. Anytime they are forced to do things differently. Get used to it.

Why didn't people like 2.86? When 2.86 was released I couldn't belive all the complaints on this board. People complaining the game was ruined, prophecies of doom for the future of Inf. That the new weapon collision and view bobbing made the game unplayable, UNPLAYABLE!

This got me a little worried until I actually played the game. Not having much experience with 2.85 I didn't find 2.86 that terrible at all. In fact that view bob and weapon collision are kind of cool!

As for the gameplay issue. For myself realism = fun (period). Same goes for Flight sims or Race sims.

I think Inf has a future catering to the "As real as it gets on a computer" crowd. Otherwise is tough competition working from the "Lets just have fun shooting each other" perspective.

Yurch, a sincere thanks for your Inf upgrade that make Inf even more fun!

i disagree.... if it is ok then the soldiers must be fat and out of shape.... you can give apoc(really really badly out of shape lol) a shotgun and an m16 and he can run more than 10 feet.... marines train a good while and are pretty strong and i think they would be able to run at least 300 yards with a good load. I mean they train with that stuff all the time

Running, not sprinting. There's a major difference...Inf's JOG speed is the kind of running you're talking about. Sprinting is an all-out, well, sprint; you can't sustain it for very long, and you won't be able to hold your weapon at aim either.

Amen to that...I've been with Infiltration since 2.75, and you're right. Increased realism makes things harder for a while, but we're a LOT better off in the end.

true enough
just wonder why they didnt use the same thing in the desert later

as for defending my fav loadout
how many grunts have submachineguns?
or bolt action sniper rifle's?
or west and east weapon in the same army?

so i dont really see a need to defend it

i dont really have a prob with mixed guns in the same army/team thing...its just when people take loadouts that would HINDER them in combat....eg m16+sniper rifle.....m16203acog....
although the uber 16 doesnt bother me as much.

ummm why would you wana take a m16 + a sniper gun?
m16 = sniper gun

akdrum + sniper
p90 + sniper
shottie + sniper
now those are loadouts that need to be banned

- Not a bad idea, gun becoming inactive during a sprint. Perhaps you'd get away with using a pistol but a SMG / Rifle may be harder... ?

Banned isint the term I would use.
"discouraged" is better.
(ok, so I might be nitpicking, lol)

I hate games that get really restrictive about the loadouts.
just make it so its not worth your time to carry so many guns.

maybe discouraging a lamer from packing an armory on his back is more complex than just limiting their loadouts.
but I think the more complicated solution might actually be better here.

this was a real question, what is RA ???

Note: I haven't had time to update the FAQ yet, and so it incorporates neither the earlier suggestions nor the v.2 changes.

RA FAQ v.1.0

A. General

1. What is RA?

A. RA stands for RealAim, a mutator by yurch that attempts to bring additional realism to Infiltration.

2. Waitaminute. I though Inf was already a realism mod?

A. It is.

3. So why do we need a 'realism' mutator?

A. Some of us think that there are aspects of Inf which are holdovers from the UT engine that it's based on, and which promote unrealistic play. There's nothing wrong with playing Inf to win, and therefore using any effective tactic that the engine allows. But the fact that these tactics are at all effective suggests that there remain flaws in the implementation of Inf. RA tries to redress these flaws.

4. Awright, so what will RA do to my game?

A. RA consists of a number of important gameplay tweaks, including

-no sprinting while aiming
-increased stamina penalty for sprinting and high bulk
-reduced speeds for sprinting, as well as moving sideways (strafing) and backwards
-increased scope sensitivity

5. Waitaminute! Increased scope sensitivity? So does sniping suck now?

A. On the contrary. Because of the adjusted movement, players in the open will be vulnerable for longer periods of time. Also, becuase it's more difficult to draw a bead, you'll find that position and patience will lead to a much more rewarding sniping experience.

6. Okay, sniping rocks. Guess that means that there's no close combat anymore, right?

A. Again, RA allows for a very exciting CQB. However, you can't expect to go charging down the middle of hallways spraying gunfire into the corners, and expect to live long against a prepared and aiming enemy. In RA tweaked games, stealth and surprise count for a lot, and so assault and CQB can also be effective and rewarding tactics.
Rather than setting a balance between 'camping' and 'run & gun', RA attempts to redefine the Inf playbook.

7. Okay, shooting is harder and movement is slower. Doesn't that slow the game down alot?

A. That's the idea. Keep in mind that slower gameplay doesn't mean less exciting, though. Most players who adapt to RA's gameplay changes agree that the difference in style of play leads to a hightened dramatic tension and a more rewarding result. Players communicate and cooperate more, leading to highly developed tactics. The longer rounds also increase the death penalty - dying first in an RA game really sucks, because you're likely to be dead awhile. This encourages players to give their own survival a higher priority.

8. Shouldn't Inf be played the way the developers designed it/Won't RA split the already small Inf community?

A. The same might be said regarding vanilla UT versus Infiltration itself. We feel that RA brings Inf closer to its stated design goals, and remain hopeful that future releases of Inf will render RA redundant. In the meantime, RA breathes new life into the ultimate realism mod.

B. Gameplay

1. Why can't I run?

A. In RA, your weapon must be hipped to sprint. You can walk and jog while aiming - but see below.

2. Why am I losing stamina so fast?

A. RA increases the stamina penalty both for sprinting and for high bulk. It is recommended that you keep your bulk as low as possible. And that you save sprinting for rapid tactical movement (like when you need to get outta Dodge - fast!)

3. Why am I running so slow?

A. RA adjusts the sprinting speed to a more modest and realistic pace. Note that this also allows the server to provide more accurate updates of player location, and helps to get rid of the 'teleporting sprinter' effect.

4. How come my sight picture wobbles so much?

A. Just like in regular Infiltration, unless you take the time to steady your aim, you will notice a slight wobble to your sight picture. Your aim is also affected by exertion, and since you lose stamina more quickly in RA, you're more likely to notice it here. You need to press and hold your 'alt aim' button (default is the right mouse button). After a moment your sight picture will stabilize - but not indefinitely! Eventually you will have to take another breath.

C. Known Bugs

1. Why is my scope sight picture black?

A. Don't know. This could be an animation bug on some servers.

2. Why do some players look like they're skating/moving while crouched etc.?

A. This is an animation bug that affects both RA and non-RA servers. The design team is aware of this bug.

3. Why do players seem to be sliding down to the bottom of hills? Why can't I kill them while they're at the bottom?

A. This is another graphics problem in Infiltration. Again, the design team is aware of this bug. You're more likely to notice this in RA games, though, since players tend to make be
