Whose still going to play INF for UT when the UT2K4 version comes out?

  • Two Factor Authentication is now available on BeyondUnreal Forums. To configure it, visit your Profile and look for the "Two Step Verification" option on the left side. We can send codes via email (may be slower) or you can set up any TOTP Authenticator app on your phone (Authy, Google Authenticator, etc) to deliver codes. It is highly recommended that you configure this to keep your account safe.

I hate that most people don't like realism ( on inf level ). Take a look at Red Orchestra servers, it's a bunch of them, but very few are populated. And i dont even consider RO all too realistic. It's still arcadish for my taste.
True Combat... the same. Some 43 servers online, few populated.

People have simple minds. They want to connect, shoot everything, run, respawn etc.

I still can't believe the fact that there isn't ONE more mod out there that resembles inf. Are SS the only ones who create a game on this level of realism?
Sadly, yes.

That is strange in some ways, Bohemia Interactive has sold a very lot of Operation Flashpoint boxes, enough to produce a "goty" version then a "best seller" version (and despite the fact their multiplayer is not exactly "easy" to join as when a game begin you have to wait for the next to be able to join)

So it proved that a game focusing on realism can be very successfull and that a lot of players from several ages category are interested by realism in gaming.

That is why i always wondered why in the mod/tc world, only Infiltration really focused on realism ?

It's because attention to detail and quality is *hard* to do. It's much easier to go halfway.
To have a perfect game, in my opinion, you need:
1. Action (Something happening that suprises or excites you)
2. Logic (Pro-intuitive, when you win it is because you are better than the opponent, not because you are luckier)
3. Detail/Realism (To make you feel like you are a part of the game, instead of just playing it

"Logic" is probably what the general public doesn't agree with. Many of the popular action games can just be so random at times. Random encounters in deathmatch maps, random hitting with conefire, wildly varying skill levels with wildly varying pings. UT2k4 is one of the few 'action' titles I can enjoy, as it still keeps things in a reasonable order.
That, and check the popularity of the filth known as 'RPG games'. Last I checked, Hitpoints, leveling, and other so-called 'RPG elements' weren't actually a requirement to playing a role as the title entails. When so many games where your fate can literally come down to a die roll exist, I think the general gaming populace actually has a masked gambling addiction.

I don't understand how kicking your friend's ass because the computer selected a better random number can be rewarding.

Then again, an element of randomness is needed so that people can pick up a game and play. And the more random the game is, the easier the learning curve, since less logical thinking is required. Just look at chess, it isn't always that fun when you suck at it.
