Whats the best hardware to use for inf?

  • Two Factor Authentication is now available on BeyondUnreal Forums. To configure it, visit your Profile and look for the "Two Step Verification" option on the left side. We can send codes via email (may be slower) or you can set up any TOTP Authenticator app on your phone (Authy, Google Authenticator, etc) to deliver codes. It is highly recommended that you configure this to keep your account safe.

No special hardware required to play Infiltration.

The same hardware that UT uses....

The Hardware list IMHO would be nice to have... /infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Processor PII 350 or better
Memory 128Mb or bigger
Twin 8Gb superfast harddisks for fast loading and cache
CD-ROM any speed
TNT2 Ultra 32Mb 3D card or better
Three button mouse
Sound Blaster Live sound card.

But from a previous post you made... I suggest you get UT you will need it to play Infiltration my friend.

Good Hardware

I'm running a pieced together P.o.S. that plays INF pretty well.
AMD K6-2 450
128M PC-100
FIC PA-2013 Mobo
Voodoo 3 2000 PCI
6 gig Western Digital UDMA 33
40x CD-ROM
Linksys EtherFast 10/100 NIC
Sound Blaster 64 AWE (ISA Based)
Road Runner Cable "Modem" for ISP

See? no special or outrageously priced equipment. Infact it looks antiquated compared to some of the demon boxes other players are running. But let me tell you I consistently score high enough to end up in the top 3 (if not lead the pack) for a game of INF Team Deathmatch.

:):sarcasticaly:: and my friends say that low frame rates don't hurt your game play. hah!!!)

Recommended hardware configuration for Infiltration:

Athlon 1 GHz (1000 MHz)
768 MB RDRAM minimum
50x CD-ROM or faster
35 GB free hard drive space
GeForce2 or Voodoo5 graphics card
Positional audio card with THX-certified speakers

Of course, 'recommended' doesn't necessarily mean 'required'. /infopop/emoticons\icon_wink.gif

Ya i got 6 g's to shell out just to play Inf. /infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Oh another thing, I heard from the people who made my comp that two 64 meg ram chips are better than 1 128 meg ram chip. I got two 128's in my machine.

Ya so try to fill TWO ram slots instead of one if you have that option.

Well over here on the Mac side of things I run a B&W G3 350, 128 ram, stock ati 128 rage with 16meg ram, and 8 gig HD. The only thing my system has a problem with are the maps by AngelHeart and that's only because of the extremly high poly count, normal maps run perfectly at 40fps.

best grafic card

I saw some benchmarks of GeForce 1 / 2 and the Voodoo5/6500.
Even the GeForce 1 was better than the Voodoo...
certainly GeForce 2 blow everything away

*cough*
The Voodoo5 has Hardware-Antialiasing.
This way you can run games in lower resolution but with the same quality.
And i think T&L isn't really supported by now so you have to have a high-end system to run the GEFORCE at its real speed.

for UT and INF, go for a Glide capable card - Voodoo. The scenery looks a hell lot better. It seems that you'd get better frame rate with Glide than with D3D too. And dont even think of running UT on OpenGL, your frame rates go straight to heel - that's my experience anyways.

I've got a TNT2 Ultra, the eye candy on my friends voodoo 3 3000 are better. i didnt chk for the frame rate cause we were using different machines and didnt have time for a swap. We were too busy setting up an INF LAN party!

But I did find that I generally suck at INF unless its sniping /infopop/emoticons/icon_frown.gif

Video cards

I used to run UT on my VooDoo3, and it ran very well (with a PIII 500), but when I sold it for a GeForce, my UT framerates dropped. The Glide drivers run UT much better than D3D.
However, almost every other game I play I get up to 100 fps, but UT just doesn't like D3D!

Guys, save your money and buy a Voodoo3 3000 and overclock it. Have fun with it and wait till NV15/NV20 comes out, then buy that. It will blow everything currently on the market (including the vaunted V5 6000) right out of the water.

Voodoo5 6k

saw a promotional one at a recent micro fair, i think. I dont know what half of the features do actually - besides, all them "movie" special effects thingies havent got good reviews at the moment. Many of the features on both the V5 6K and GeForce 1 or 2 wont be pushed to the limit till the next generation of games.

The promotion booth was showing this software that basically showed lots of eye candy. It looked darned good, but its a sample eye candy software thingy not an actual performance squeezing game

For all situations except UT - GeForce2. UT - V6. Damn, I wish Epic would fix that D3D support... although 45 FPS in 1024 with everything except colors on high on a TNT2 is pretty ok, I guess. Love the Detonator 2 drivers /infopop/emoticons\icon_wink.gif
