YAY!
I think stuff just got too complicated over time. Back then all you needed was the UT editor and some graphics program. With UT2004 you needed already a 3D program for custom content and maybe some scripting, plus editor and Photoshop. Now you need to spend hours just to create a single texture it seems. Who got time for this unless you're a Pro? And the younger generation ...do they even have the patience without instant gratification?

Where least expected
I think we got a pretty good deal with what we got for UT. Even with UT4, new maps are popping up every week on the official forums. Ive been playing CS GO, and my biggest problem is how insular their community is. They only want to play the same few maps that have been played for 10 years. I know every game does this, and some servers run 24/7 rotations of default maps and such like every game...but there was so much content being developed through the UT-UT2004 days. I think UT4 has already outpaced UT3 in content creation rate.

Two weeks ago was the first update for UT4 that I actually enjoyed moving around and decided to play a few games online. It's slowly coming together. Yea, I'm hoping in a few years UT will take back off again, even though the market is a bit saturated. The time is right for FPS's to make a comeback into the pro gaming scene!
