I predict that if the expansion really takes off they'll eventually come out with another addon pack, this time with an extension to the campaign and some new teams (hint to Epic, bring back more of the original UT teams for the uber win) and a focus on the return to the tournament where Reaper can exact his revenge on Malcolm and have to face a necrified version of Jester in the arena.

Would be nice. Didn't Epic say that the patch was the start of more to come? I hope this isn't all they have up their sleeves. Malcolm would need to come back with a Thunder Crash team. Xan fits in with the existing Liandri group, but I don't recall where in the timeline UT3 occurs.

The fact that they are releasing it in exactly 2 weeks is just completely hilarious. It's nice to see they can go along with the 2 week joke.

hey why don't we stop complaining about gameplay issues and assault after this and complain only about thundercrash and the campaign? XD

Personally I would much rather be productive doing stuff like writing music and creating animations and stories plus taking care of my health and building a career rather than wasting 2 years of my life wrapped up in a virtual game. In fact it appals me that I have wasted as much time as I have with games and I am sad for kids who see games as an integral part of life to the point that they sacrifice other things and indeed often everything for it in the end. Not meant to be an attack on what you said at all but it got me thinking. I wasted a significant portion of my 20's playing games like UT. Even after I had figured out all the important tricks and reached the peak of my game I played it for another couple of years. And really, there is no reason to do that except to shun responsibilities and be lazy.

I never liked assault that much if not in the campaign...

Oh Bersy, how do u know about the GUI being black?

There were screenshots of the new GUI and also screenshot of the advanced video settings having ability to turn off many of these post processing effects etc....

Even though the pc bread and butter crowd were put dead last it's nice to see Epic at least making some sort of attempt at correcting some of what is wrong with the game.So good job there.

While I welcome of all the new content it doesn't mean much to me if the game isn't challenging, stable,AND fun.I hope more time went into FIXING things than just adding new bait to attract people. There already is enough people to make this game thrive,IF they would just get the most important factors right. The new content will attract some for sure, but will it keep people,I don't think so.

This is just a bonus pack right and not the expansion?

I still say that nearly all of the customizable options that were in 2k4 should be in UT3.The game is already hard to enough to choke down so the more they allow people to tweak to their preference the better chance they'll have at keeping people. (i.e. swap fire modes PER wep, remove simulated console joystick feel to mouse, flak traj, custom hairs, etc.)Possibly 5% of the time it took took create that bonus pack.Soo demanding I know.

If they are gonna continue to nerf the wall dodge just remove it altogether. Why do a wall dodge if there's no real extra height or distance to gain?I don't wanna hear the scale bit.The extra challenge and reward it offers outweigh scale imho.I am NOT saying 2k4 style, but now it's just worthless. Those moves are the very thing that attracted many to UT over the last 5 years and they pwn all other basic strafe and bunny hop style fps'.Leave the vanilla moves for console please.

Hoping for a faster wep switch time in order to do combo kills. Is there anyone who thinks they are not rewarding?Flak ball someone airborne then light 'em up with a headshot?Too much thinking?

I know I know, time for the "requires more strategy in choosing 1 ONE wep when entering a battle" routine again. lulz NO.How fast and how often do situations change in a big DM game? How many times do actually walk into a room or arena and go one on one with a guy and finish without interruption?Being able to switch faster allows you to be more prepared and adapt for the ever changing turn on a dime scenarios that arise throughout a match.

Sounding like a rant I'm gonna lay off for now.I am hopeful and trying to be open minded here, but tbh Epic ripped out too much of what was hard and or great about UT in order to appeal to mainstream and I don't think they will do jump off the bandwagon anytime soon.

It would be best if Epic would just always make a version catered to consoles & controllers and a version specifically designed for pc/m&kb capablities. There is no happy medium for the 2.

Definitely checking it out and hoping to be impressed because as of now I'm just pleasantly surprised and curious.

What the hell is this "ballin" thing?

This is what i want. IF they said they were doing this i would just take this "titan" pack with no complaints.

Perhaps a few of us do it for entertainment after work and family. It can be some very fun and cheap entertainment to ya know.

I doubt most play to avoid responsibility (lulz).Out socializing with friends is not very different from playing TDM on TS or vent.Lying around watching TV is also no different imo.Everyone has their way to unwind.I do agree with your second statement though. Some do treat it like it's their life (i.e. WoW) and when they finally snap out of it they're scratching their head saying "WTF! Where did this spare tire and grey straw hat come from?"

UT3 is after UT2004 and before UC. But that doesn't matter actually, as Xan is a robot, and thus doesn't age (except corrode, but he gets upgraded often so that shouldn't matter).

I understand this to a certain extent. I spent YEARS getting good at 2k4/3 and at my peak i was probably one of the top 10 (or close to it) 1v1'ers in the US and I have absolutely NOTHING to show for it lol. All that time I spent who knows what I could have done.

Yeah I could rattle off a list of my "achievements" in the series that makes the Steam achievement list look like a pile of poo.. but in the end it really is meaningless. I will probably fire up the expansion and have a few yuks with it, but it doesn't mean as much to me as it once would have, not because what is or isn't in it, but because in the end it is just a game I have spent too much time on already.

With a faster weapon switch time, however, you can't get the jump on anyone. How do you surprise a guy if he can just whip out his shock rifle in 3/10ths of a second and immediately begin returning fire?

How do you stop a guy from building his node if he can whip out his AVRiL in 3/10ths of a second and fire it before you even get close?

More importantly, how do you prevent the extremely over-powered Shock->Lightning combo that was capable of taking off around 115 health in less than a second if both shots hit? And if that lightning hit was a headshot, crank that up to 185.

The only way a faster weapon switch time would work is if weapons got toned down, and then they wouldn't feel destructive. They'd feel like laser fights.

In other words, they'd feel like 2k4.

They made a huge hulabaloo before the game was released that this would be possible, and how powerful kismet would be even to noobs who had never done scripting. So far I haven't seen a single user made map like this, and it's been well over a year.

Just look at the assault-mod for UT2k3 ... it was over a year and they only managed to create a bare-bones version of some of the maps.

The problem isn't in making such maps.
It's in finding people that are willing to do anything.
Heck ... most of the "complaints" like faster weapon-switches or a re-designed GUI and the like could be fixed by anyone willing to spend a few hours worth of spare time each day.

It's much easier to sit back and complain on forums about how Epic sucks instead of doing anything productive as this thread once again proves.

Anyways ... Titan-pack, Titan-gametype/mutator ... definitely makes sense.
I've got a slight feeling of deja vu as I thought that titans being part of this expansion was something I expected. It would have been nice if the titans were classic Unreal-titans (or maybe even a GoW-inspired behemoth).
Can't have everything, can we ?

Link Generator is just what it sounds like. Instead of standing around healing a tank or building a node, the Stealthbender can drop a link generator to do the job instead.

X-Ray Field is like the slow field, only it shows your bones and makes you really weak and easy to kill instead.

Slow Field Power up, think The Matrix bullet time. You'll move normal, but all your enemies will appear to move slow so you can dodge things better.

Eradicator is a turret the works like the SPMA.

We know some of this stuff for sure, but some of it is just a logical guess.

Thanks for clearing up some of those descriptions. :) It all sounds very cool, and for once I'm looking forward to something from Epic. (sorry guys the last couple of years have been kinda harsh for some of us on the PC. It's going to be a while before we can *sniffle* trust you again. So please be gentle, it's been a while.)

Oh err,.. um, I'm going to hold off judgment until after I've DL'ed and played all this new stuff. I'm also going to give it the benefit of remembering this new content was done for free.

But I will say this: I'm very suspicious that I may wind up playing a TON of GREED. I'm not the best out there, but I'm definitely a killer of opportunity, and this seems like a game type that will reward a sneaky, blur streak of a ninja like me.

Also, I hope the DM-DarkMatch encourages some more dark levels. I know mappers love to show off what they craft, but with the right lighting techniques this can be really fun and immersive.
