UT2003 Issues

Ok, I've posted on the official Epic Games forums and been hailed with "You really need to get UT2004", "Trade that puppy in for UT2004" and "UT2003 Sucks, Try Uflash 2007"s, I'm trying here because here you don't get lots of Trash over which version you have and what you need to get.

Ok, Now on to the issue, I've tried installing it and get to a certain point then the installation just stops.

Critical Error
Failed reading source file: X:\Textures\PlayerSkins.utx (Data Error (Cyclic redundancy check))
The source media may be bad. If installing from a CD, try cleaning the CD to remove any dirt, check your CD drive, and try again.

I have tried cleaning the dis, it's fine, The CD drive is in fully working order
This is rather annoying as I like UT and I've got UT2k4, But I also like UT2k3's clone for the X-Box (Unfortunately, I traded my X-Box classic in for part exchange for an X-Box 360).

Please will someone help me?

You could copy all files from the CDs to a directory on your harddisk and install from there.

There have been issues with windows XP and service pack 3 regarding the installing of older software.

You really need to get UT2004

Trade that puppy in for UT2004

Try what Wormbo said or you can try installing from another computers cd drive, sometimes good cd drives hate some disks. (Share out the other computers cd drive).

I cleaned the drive, Drive works fine, I tried installing UT2003 on to another computer and it wouldn't do it. My PC is Win XP SP2 FYI.

Did you try copying the folders to somewhere on your hard drive?

Not yet, they're in UZ format I think. Trying to find prog to open them in

you shouldn't need to, you can just run setup.exe straight from your hard drive.

I would have to read this thread before I reinstalled UT2003. But everything went fine with my reinstall and I was looking at the screen the whole time hoping that the CDs would read fine.

Was it the 3rd disc? I don't think there was that much on that one (I'm not at home so I can't check).

Can you tell it to not bother with the 3rd disc or does it need it to install? Also, is the 3rd disc linked to the others with the CD key or is it just the first one?

I must reinstall UT2003. I used to play it all the time, and it was the last game I played extensively online. I wonder if there are many servers remaining...

I'm not sure. Ithink I remember seeing some servers on the demo so there should be some still up.
