"I think Unreal Engine 3 and Nintendo Revolution would be very well suited to each other.

"We don't know right now what the machine's capable of or not capable of, and we've built Unreal Engine 3 to a certain specification. If the machine can run the engine, it'd be fantastic to have it on there."
These placatory words were recently uttered by Epic's ever-exuberant Vice President of Marketing Mark Rein. Apparently, it took only two months for Midway to arrive at an answer to his hypothetical.

Revolution Report has picked up a job listing posted at Creative Heads:
Midway-Studios Austin has exciting opportunities for Level Layout Designers to apply their specialized skills on a high profile, next-generation first-person shooter using the Unreal 3 engine.

You will be instrumental in visualizing game levels, and working under the direction of the Lead Level Designer. You will work within a level strike team, with a scripter, an audio implementer, and environment artists, to turn your dream into a reality.

According to the job posting, the title in question is being designed for the Playstation 3, XBox 360... and the Nintendo Revolution.

And Mark expects us to forget his rediculous Revolution-bashing... how?

If Epic pulls it off to make UE3 run on the Revolution they really have an awesome product. An game engine that works on all major platforms (PC (WinX, Linux, MacOSX), Xbox360, PS3, Nintento Revolution).
The only thing missing is PSP and DS support. Although that is something that might never happen.

Yeah, from what ive heard the Revolution's technical specs will be conciderably lower than the Xbox 360 and Playstation 3. Now ill be really itnerested in see the differences between the 3 different versions, graphicaly and in gameplay. If the Revolution is all its said to be, im guessing it will have quite a leg up on the others in gameplay... and it should be quite a kick in the face to MS and Sony if the graphics arent very noticeably dumbed down on the Rev.

It's all rumour mill about the Revolution's specs until Nintendo decides to release the info.

Rumour is that the revolution won't be the leap that the 360 and ps3 are, because it's not necessary. They won't be supporting HD graphics afaik and want to make a very ergonomic system.

To be fair, another possibility is that the HR person just automatically put all 3 consoles on the posting. Considering how many games are slated specifically for PS3 and XBox360 (with the Rev notably absent), my first inclination is to believe the inclusion of the Rev is intentional rather than accidental. We'll soon see.

Open mouth, insert foot eh Mr. Rein?

If this is true, and FPS games work really well for the console's input system, then barring all the little kiddies looking for hyper-realistic graphics, it could very well take a good chunk out of the XBox's fanbase.

However, the fact that they've got UE3 running on the "less powerful" Revolution says a lot about the power of the revolution. Also, keep in mind that the Revolution isn't going to be running high-def, so that means that the system won't strain as much with UE3 titles (ie. higher texture sizes for the larger resolutions). This could be a good thing.

If that happens, I've got money saying the DS would last longer than the PSP, battery life wise. If the DS can do Mario 64, I would think it could handle at least Unreal 1. Maybe Epic should consider an UEM version.... Unreal Engine Mobile?

Wasn't UE2 working on Gamecube? I thought UED allows you to optimize maps for gamecube?

Donsidering the Revo won't be running in HD (as of now), I can see why it is very possible that UE3 would run on it. If developer reports are accurate and the Revolution is 2-3x more powerful than the Gamecube as of non-final development kits, the Revolution should look damn near as good (in standard resolution) as the other two consoles. Taking into account what the Gamecube can pull off graphics wise, despite it not being 'the most powerful console' to some, I wouldn't be too worried about the Revolution's capabilities.

Granted, HD definitely does look better, but it's still a minority in TV sets. With Nintendo targeting the significantly larger standard television market, the controller interface could show off the best way to play FPS, while still not skimping on graphics.

Yeah, I have to say, I'm not too fond of the controller, but as far as FPS games are concerned, it looks promising.

That and I think I heard one of the extensions to the controller will have a "classic" controller set. Which is good enough for me >_>
