ooo whoop de doo.
You get a small card saying that under a very specific set of circumstances (ie : a UE3-techdemo on a specific set of hardware) you might get 1.9 x the performance when using 2 cards of that type.
I thought various real-world gametests had proven that 1.9 is more than a little optimistic for SLI.

Is there expected to be an even better Graphic card coming out some time within the next year? They said that the Geforce 6800 will run smoothly with the game. Yet my current pc either meets or exceeds the recomended system requierments for UT2004, and it still chokes on levels like ONS-Urban.

rule #1 : there always is a new/better card after you buy one
rule #2 : new cards practically appear every half year ...

Ati has got one that's supposed to be released at the end of the year.
And I'm sure nVidia will have a new one before UT2k7 is released as well.

So Unrealengine 3 games will run on a GF 6800 perfect and smoothly but on SLI gf6800 will run with full FPS.

Nvidia will come end this year or Q1 2006 with Geforce 8000 Series.

ATI end this year with the R500 Series that also for next gen. they also make nextgen cards for AGP Slots.

But nvidia still rule i seen a test with Geforce 7800GT litest gf7 series that eva been made VS a ATI Readon X850XT Platium. Results of GF7800GT he wins of it with 80% more with 3dmark05

I wouldn't count on 60+ fps ... I think it is probably more like 14 fps for the single and +/- 25 fps for the SLI solution.
ie : good enough for demo's and nVidea's marketing-dodo's.

Remember even UT2kx couldn't run at 60+ fps initially because there was literally no hardware available to do that.

They wouldn't be quoting vague stuff if like 1.9x size if they could beat you over the head with proper framerates.

So if your card really is 'good enough' when UT2k7 is released then an equivalent card will be a lot cheaper and a faster card will be available. Effectively making your current purchase a waste of money if you really bought it with UE3/UT2k7 in mind ...

UT 04 is CPU bound. So lag on urban is down to the CPU.

I also have a pentium 4 2.4 GHz and 512 DDR ram. so its not a bad system. can an OS system limit perfomance you think? Because I'm still on Win 2000 (XP is evil).

Neophoenix, I really am in doubt that you will be able to run the game whit this processor and so little amount of RAM. If you've watched one of the game's engine previews you should have known that gf6800 is the first video card that is able to run the gaem... but in descent framerates...

There's something else that goes in my mind- I thing that Epic are going to make the PC version run in less colours(I think 64 or even 32bits  ), unlike the PS3 version which is going to be on 128bit colours. The main priority of PS3 is the Cell processor which is absolutely devastating and because I'm sure that there is going to be Linux(I'm a linux fan) for PS3, I'm going to buy it as soon as it is released in Bulgaria. There are rumors, that Cell will be released for PCs and at very lol prices- around $35, and if that is true and the release thate is 1or 2 mounths after the PS3's one I'm going to wait for it and buy it whit a 2xGF7800GTX in SLI mode. The only that bothers me is that the rumor is false...

no, DOS can run UT2k4 just fine, even UT2007 I'm told.

but seriously, 2000 MIGHT be okay, but I wouldn't dismiss later OS's, especially based on the simply idiotic thought that XP is "evil".

it's not idiotic ... it is evil
Altough given what we know about Vista (which has so many DRM-features you can't make a legal recording without it being involved) I'm sure that will be the true Evil for any consumer with a brain.

Dude I’m taking about UT2004. I have problems running ONS-Urban with a P4 2.4 GHz 512 DDR ram and a Gf4 Ti 4200 or 4400 (I forget which). My point of bringing this up was to show that my system surpasses the recommended requirements and still chokes on stock maps. And if this is going to be the same case with the UT2007 recommended requirements then it’s definitely a waste of time and money buying upgrades almost a year before it is released.

EDIT:I agree with JaFO. Anyone with a brain that takes the time to read the Windows agreements will see that Microsoft invades and strips away your privacy rights. And from the things I've been told by some of my computer genius friends, it's only going to get worse in the future with Microsoft and some hardware companies. I would use Linux for this reason, but game support for Linux is pretty bad, and though switching to Mac would be optimum for me (less programing skills needed), their game support is even less.

Well, see, there's a difference between THEIR Minimum specs and OUR Minimum specs. To them, if it runs at 30 FPS with Normal details, that's acceptable. Gamers are more... discerning.
Who said anything about Minimum? I'm talking about their Recommended there is a big difference between the two. And when your system surpasses the Recommended and still chokes on maps, there is something wrong there. So either they need to give Better system requirements, optimize their levels better, or there is something on my system that is off. Though I doubt it's the last option seeing as the same thing happened to my brother on his system with Doom3. He also surpassed every system requirement and still had FPS issues, and he’s a computer programmer so it's not like he doesn't know what he’s doing when it comes to computers.

Did it choke on retail-levels or on user-made content ?
Did it choke on 'average' detail or did you have it set to ultra-high detail ?

AFAIK D3 has quite a few settings that can kill even the best systems especially after using one of the 'ultra high detail'-patch-thingies.
// ---

Minimum : you can see the main-menu, but you're going to be watching a slideshow instead of playing the game even if you use the lowest possible settings ...

recommended : you can play the game on *average* settings at 30 fps tops

overkill : the real system you need to run the game at (ultra)high-detail & over 60 fps

The latter is the system you'd want to have as a gamer if you want to have the best possible graphics and details.

a P4 / 512 Mb / GF4 is barely better than recommended (which says 1Gb IIRC) hardly overkill
