**ULTIMATE way to STOP GHOST RECON - INF TEAM, READ!**

 • Two Factor Authentication is now available on BeyondUnreal Forums. To configure it, visit your Profile and look for the "Two Step Verification" option on the left side. We can send codes via email (may be slower) or you can set up any TOTP Authenticator app on your phone (Authy, Google Authenticator, etc) to deliver codes. It is highly recommended that you configure this to keep your account safe.

Here's a suggestion:

When you die, your cam immediatly turns to face the person that kills you and right after that, your vision slowly fades to black.

This will be a server side option of course.

Thanks, Tommy!

OK, so ghost-recon is something that has not been addressed, and is taken by a number of people to be part of the tradition of playing INF.

Now another question: aside from autorespawn, are there any other "canned" solutions that can be ported over to the INF-code so the request is easier for the INF team to grant?

reconnaissance
: a preliminary survey to gain information; especially : an exploratory military survey of enemy territory

Preliminary

: something that precedes or is introductory or preparatory:

Ghosting cannot be refered to as "recon" Recon is something you do first, not when you die.

Suggestions to combat GHOSTING:

Can we just get some assurance that the INF team will look into creating some server options concerning ghosting? I'm out of this one now, or at least until i get mad again. I would like to know that the INF team is listening, and actually consuming this input from everyone. Thanks, cya.

Give server admins such as myself more than one option.

1. The option to turn freeflight ghost cam off, this would allow you to follow your teammates still but not see what everyone else is doing.

2. The option to turn off teamsay after death, allow the dead players to talk openly with the rest of the players but not in teamsay. This on a server where it is not accepted to ghost would certainly bring ridicule to the people giving away positions.

3. The option to turn teamsay off after death and allow only the dead to mumble back and forth to each other.

4. The addition of tactic information. ie. information from say "headquaters" or something of that nature that is displayed upon reaching the 90sec marker, giving general but non specific information to whereabouts of remaining players(teams specific) based on map locations. example: (Headquaters): Enemy location secure: North Main st. And this too could be a server option.

Giving multiple ways for an admin to combat this would be wonderful, my server would fall somewhere in the middle with maybe one or two options on. The rest being viewed as overkill. But to each his own.

>>I thought the idea was to think about how the mod could be- not just get wound up at each other...

I'm talking about the people who call Recon "Cheating". Those are the situations I'm referring to. It is NOT cheating, it has been in INF since day 1. :)

Do you think they would've programmed it into INF 1.0 if they didn't want it? :)

Make it so the Dead CANNOT be heard by the Living. simple fix . . . then, who gives a **** about ghostcam?!
also . . . pressing spacebar and cycling through ghostcam and 1st and 3rd views of your teamates would be cool. I kinda like the 1st person view sometimes :)

it is very distracting to have all the text of the dead talking, when you are trying to play.

LefesBane: in inf since day one, in my books thats when 285 was released

I personally don't like 'recon' I prefere to find my oponent through my own methods, but sometimes thats not very fun for the dead people as it will take too long.

Newbies and ghostcam opposers:

i cant stand these one-timer to 15post newbies coming in here and saying our efforts to make infiltration the best mod ever are pointless. You guys should ask whats the big deal first before telling us were a bunch of whinners.

Heres the situation kiddies:
Some people ghost while talking to living players on voice communication programs (ie: roger wilco) and report enemy positions to their teammates which they are hooked up to (on roger wilco). This is very rare in public servers because most ofter players join sparaticlly, and dont bother to get their RW (roger wilco) buddies to help them. They are just there to play the game.

In clan games it is a differant story. Winning is most often everything, and most players will do everything and anything to ensure victory (im not suggesting cheating, so dont ask). Ghost recon makes surprise tactics worthless when other team mates are telling their living teammates where and what the enemy is doing.

Now the simple solution would be to throw out ghosting alltogether, but thats just not fair. To many newbies, and even well developed players, it is important to be able to have a chance to see how team dynamics work online, and pick up a few skills in the proccess. Having the ability explore maps, and how they are best used without the pressure of staying alive. It is simply not fair to deny people this right, in casual servers that is.

In clan matches, things have to be ensured fair. It is not acceptable to take the risk of having one team report the others position while dead. This is why in clan matches (where winning counts) ghosting should be dissallowed (with an acception). The best way to do this is to put a 15 second time limit on ghosting. Right when the player dies, he should be sent to the location in which he died for 15 seconds of ghosting. This way he can checkout how he died, and that such information. After the 15 seconds, he is sent to a first person POV of one of his team mates.

Read my solution posted at the very top of the first page, and everything is explained clearly. If read carefully, it will occur to you that ghosting is an important part of the infiltration learning process, and with the server side option of disabling it, it is possible to please both worlds.

Personally, I don't really care too much on the issue anymore, since I play on SOBservers (lowest pings from me), and ghosting is an accepted practice on their servers. I myself will not generally do any ghosting unless everyone else is doing it, however, I also make sure that I know that the enemy knows where I am by joining the RW channels for SOB. I don't talk, I just listen.

Morons.

The time has come when there is finally an update to a great game. Now the people that have no idea of infiltrations roots are mouthing off on a constant basis and making a joke of themselves. If you do not want to hear the dead make a server and do not allow it, or you can come to our servers and play with the real players. I will refrain from making this a personel attack against the newbies. So in closing if you don't want to play by our rules then go play with yourself.

quote:
The_Fur: Your supposition that one guy on ghost-recon can hand the game over to his team assumes a great deal. If one team has the ability, both teams do, so the net advantage is zero. Another thing to bear in mind is that just because you have the intelligence on a situation does not mean that you will be able to act on it effectively. Some teams can, but that has more to do with the native skills of the players involved than the information they are given by their teammates.[/quote]

Oh and what does knowing every oponents position and facing so you can easilly sneak up on them from behind give you "personal skill"?

oh and Evil_Rev... SHUT UP.
