Hey, y'all, I'm new to Unreal, late on the bandwagon, truly tardy. I was wasting all my time the last few years playing Quake and all its mods and Quake2 and its few mods. Now, I've purchased Unreal at MediaPlay (for $15 /~unreal/ubb/html/smile.gif) and I'm wondering: Does Unreal, comparatively speaking, SUCK or what? I mean, the la-de-da graphics and engine that I heard about do not seem to exist, again compared to Quake2 and even Quake. Unreal? More like LemonPeel. Thanks for listening!!

I would have to concur, Mark. I'm new to this as well. I picked up Quake2 really cheap after I found I liked playing the demo. Really enjoyed playing Quake2. Decided to get Unreal when I saw it for 10 bucks. At first I found the graphics pretty impressive, but I don't think the gameplay compares to Quake2. Just not nearly as rivetting and sometimes directionless. Quake2 makes me sweat bullets.

Ok. Loaded up the 226a patch for Unreal, and dang if it doesn't play in OpenGl now!! Well, I must say it's a little more pleasurable. But, yes, it does still lack atmosphere, playability, decent monsters and power-packed weapons. Oh, I forgot to mention that other "crappy," Past Blue Ribbon-chugging, trailer trash game, Half-Life. As one mod designer put it when she first saw H-L: "Wow!!" Really, try playing Unreal and then load up Quake, Quake2, Quake3 or Half-Life and see if you don't wonder why Unreal isn't $5 in the bargain bins. Thanks for listening!!

And......? I read that link and its got a good point, but didnt you notice in Unreal the music, the titans, the Skarrj Assasins (help) and yes even the brutes when all you got is the automag???? The point of this is Unreal looks beautiful and plays like a motherf****r on crack. Hell I even prefere Unreals single player to quake 2s, which didnt seem to have any direction, just walk this way, turn around go back find an enemy has turned up, kill that etc.
And how can you say the monsters arn't decent and the weapons have no power malevolentmark?? ASMD combos, dispersion pistols (powered up of course), EIGHTBALLS!!

Finally, don't slate Halflife. Its only the greatest SP experience to date. The AI wihps Q2s and Unreals for ****.

Anyway, I'll stop now and ponder why it took about 2 years for me to stop playing Unreal. Thats right UT, and now I'm playing Unreal again coz its FAN-F****NG-TASTIC!!!!!!!

Ahhhhh, I'm done.

Heh heh heh.
You're right about Q2's single player.
And you're right about Unreal's...
I play UT for deathmatch but for a single player game Unreal will win it every time.

Hellscrag, Unreal single player nut :) . In deathmatch look for me as [SkW]Deathwish of UK clan SkaarjWarriors. Email me hellscrag@lineone.net.
Check my website http://surf.to/scragsite for Unreal Walkthroughs and other cool stuff or my clan site http://surf.to/skaarjwarriors for my UT designing projects

Couldn't have said it better myself.... though I'd probably add SiN to the list of SP favorites...... Fast gameplay, huge levels, ludicrous blood&gore, and in-game taunts and jokes that had me laughing my *** off.

This is pathetic. Unreal in singleplayer kicks Quake and Quake2's collective @sses. Sorry guy...you're just wrong on this one!

Damn, but that game is funny! Crude jokes galore, your character taunting enemies and monsters throughout levels, and verbal fencing with your character's wise-a$s hacker buddy. You should still get the full version, it's worth the fun. I've seen it down to under $20 now.

SiN lacks the graphic immersiveness of Unreal(SiN is a Quake2-engine game)but it still looks great, and has it's own humorous comic-book style immersion factor.

Though Unreal and Half-Life rule the SP genre, I'd put SiN up there any day. Ther's something so heart-warming about blasting someone's entire upper torso into gibs with a shotgun, and saying: "I tore you a new one, chump!" or "Owned your *** !"

For those of you who play UT, try my voicepack of John Blade, SiN's main character.

Or how about - I'm gonna make you my bitch!
and it's funny if you just shoot tables and computers around, haha, JC tells you that "this is not a shooting gallery Blade." hehe SiN is kinna buggy, but it sure is fun.

Hey, i'm also a new comer to the world of Unreal. As well as any other game newer then Quake and DukeNukem 3D... i finaly got a new computer. Anyhoo, i've been playing UT (the demo at least) alot lately, and i've been wondering.. why the hell isn't there a demo version of the original Unreal? despite all the very nice things you people say about the game, i can't spend my tiny amount of money on a game i never played. If it's in any way similar to UT, then i'll get it, is it? And about the other games, i played the demo if Quake 2, and i didn't really like it a whole lot.. idunno, just seemed bland and boring... but i DID enjoy SiN quite a bit, though now that i think of it, saying "I'm going to make you my bitch" to a guy you just killed is kinda nasty.. but yeah, i love that kinda talk during SP games. Which is why i'm curious why no one mentioned Blood2? Caleb has the koolest voice, and i love hearing him say "It's howdy doody time kiddies, the bad man is here!" Or "EVERYBODY DIES!" In a really evil voice...

Yes. I don't like UnrealSP. I'm still trying to give it a chance, though. About halfway through, but I have to force myself to play it. Still playing more Q2SP. I guess it comes down to "different strokes, for different folks". The best way to describe Unreal is........ROCOCCO, too much so. It's pissed me off several times with it's seemingly endless sort of "cardboard, labyinthine Wonderworld". It really pissed me off when , early in the game, at the arena where the first (I think) Titan is encountered, it "let" me skip an entire section of a level forcing me to miss the only "energy amplifier" that, so far, I would have been able to find. Granted, I blew a hole in the wall around the back of the Arena, but decided not to enter it at that time. I dropped into the arena and fought the Titan. Later, I found from reading Hellscrag's walkthrough that I had completely missed some "jail cells" that were in the building, and I couldn't go back. In the interest of not "cheating", I continued on, expecting to find another "amplifier", which I could really use, but I haven't found one yet. Oh well, interestingly, after ranting about it, I'm craving a little Unreal. Headed for the Sunspire. /~unreal/ubb/html/wink.gif
