I have noticed many sits and sigs have small images linking to their favorite programs or sites, things like

.
Does anyone know what this style of button is called and if there is a website or similar where I can browse through them? and is there a template I can use to create my own?

you just need to download special 6-8 point (pixel?) fonts, so that the text shows up right at such a small size.
Besides the individual design, that's the main trick.
(as you can see, designing something so small doesn't involve a lot of work, and the less detail the better)
