I'm sick of these ads and I wish they'd stop.

Macs aren't "better" than PCs, and neither are PCs better than Macs. They're simply different.

Now if they showed THIS, on the other hand...

Mac_vs_Unix_vs_Vista.jpg

...I'd watch them every time. :p

PS: You gain +1 Awesomeness if you know who the "Vista" guy is.

In your computer, duh.
Evil_Bob have you ever even used OSX? Did you take time to learn it? What gives you the right to say what you did below, apparently without any basis? You need to answer why "... there is very little to [OSX].". What's it lacking? I want to know!

Out-of-the-Box Programs

Some of them might be up to par of Microsoft's free stuff but so far I haven't found their version of paint. You might complain about these but I don't. I like free stuff that is better than nothing.

Security

Absolutely non-exist as far as I can tell. Especially Safari, I had it on my main Windows PC when I liked a few of the features. But when **** came into my computer in a sudden surge every time I used it. Most Apple programs are built for the relative safety of the iMac. The firestorm of Windows with every dumbass hacker trying to make a name and some money for themselves is just a little bit of a different place.

Raw Power

Say what you will, this is the ****. Sure it causes **** loads of heat but eh, if you want to run stuff don't goof around. Processor speed seems to be a iMacs big falling point. Don't give me that "Oh but their just as fast" bull crap. Photoshop takes forever to load on a iMac, takes about three seconds even on my old junk-box. Same version of Photoshop and everything. I'm spoiled on speed.

Video

Sure, makes are the unrivaled king of static pictures. When pictures start moving things enter Windows court. This is because most gamers use Windows so Microsoft makes sure to aim to please.

Compatibility.

Sure it's all up to the programmer though if they'll make the program compatible with the iMac. Sucks now that Apple is now where Microsoft was, doesn't it?

The iMac is a pretty printing press because that's the only field of business it only is useful in: Printing.

Oh and yes, I know how to use a iMac. Not as well as Windows but I don't get lost either.

Photoshop loads in like 5 seconds in my macbook pro, I play Prey at around 70 fps at max settings 1440 x 900, and who ever uses paint when there's something like Gimp for free? Macs come with a lot of small apps that windows lack, like Stickies (notes for your desktop) Expose (press a button and all of the windows you have open shrink so they can all fit on the screen), Spaces (multiple desktops), iChat, and Garageband to name a few. And I wouldn't give up the sleek look of the hardware OR the operating system for anything; windows is such a cluttered mess in comparison. I'm not a prep or a tool or whatever, I just prefer how smooth everything is on a mac. It's something you won't appreciate I don't think until you have one to call your own.

Honestly, I wouldn't use the iMac as my point of comparison, but to each his own.

I use Paint in conjunction with GIMP because even though people insult Paint it still is useful. It's quick and simple and is good for the "rough sketch" when making an image. Your right, Windows doesn't have something like Stickies, Expose, or Spaces. But in that sentence only Stickies sounded actually useful. Expose and Spaces are more of a shortcut to keep from doing it yourself. No matter how hard you try, without Gimp or Photoshop a Mac is useless for making images. But don't get into downloadable stuff because there is equivalent programs for anything Steve Jobs could pull out of his ass. Hell, I found Stardock which adds the Dock to Windows. I can find Stickies for Windows.

Microsoft Messenger is equivalent to iChat and Windows Movie Maker is equivalent to Garageband.

No one said that you were, but now that you've actually bothered to state that though plus how you "quoted" my post I'm to go out here on a rather sturdy limb and say that you are.

Looks like I started a good discussion here.

I suppose I am just sick of commercials that just try to make the competition look bad, as opposed to really telling me how fast/big/good/capable their product actually is. The oversimplification isn't promoting anything but a dumbed down consumer base. It's really prevalent in many commercials now days though. I remember back in the 80's when the commercials tried to tell you why you should buy their product by comparing it to the 'leading competitor' in some sort of heads up comparison. Now we just say, buy our computer so you look cool and not nerdy.

Oh well, I suppose that's what works on potential mac buyers, target a dumbed down audience (just teasing you mac lovers) with a dumbed down add.

(I really don't have a thing against macs, just stupid adds) Those Geico commercials are getting old too......

I fooled around with leopard again in class today. Some complaints:

Is it just me or is there no maximize button? I couldn't get a window to fit the screen unless I dragged it from the bottom right edge. I was also disappointed to find that the cursor did not change to a "resize" cursor when I moved it over the edge of a window.

Mouse movement sucks hardcore! It's like acceleration is enabled by default or something... But I couldn't find any acceleration options under the mouse preferences, just movement speed. When I move the mouse slowly, the cursor barely moves on screen. I suppose it's good for graphics development because you can really pinpoint exact pixels, but for regular computer usage it sucks!

Why does it have to be the opposite of windows with the location of the minimize and close buttons? Is there a way to change it? It's kind of annoying when you're used to a PC where the min/max/close buttons are always on the upper right.

No CTRL C/X/V to copy/cut/paste? You have to use the damn apple command button instead? Come on!

I wish they would standardize these basic things across platforms.

Expose and Spaces are unbelievably useful for organizing my desktop and finding a window, I probably press the Expose key on my keyboard more than any other. You have probably never even seen what it does, much less gotten completely used to it, so don't tell me it's not useful. "a shortcut to keep from doing it yourself," what does that even mean, by that logic paint is a shortcut to keep from opening up gimp and doing it yourself.

No matter how hard you try, without Gimp or Photoshop a Mac is useless for making images. That's your argument against Macs? You can't make images with them unless you download a free application, one with infinitely more functionality than paint? Wow I bet Apple's going to go out of business soon...

Microsoft Messenger is equivalent to iChat and Windows Movie Maker is equivalent to Garageband.
You obviously don't even know what Garageband is, since you think it's for making movies. It is for making songs, something you would have to shell out possibly several hundred bucks on FL Studio to duplicate on windows. For edited videos, Mac has iMovie. Yeah, chat applications are a dime a dozen now, iChat stands out a bit though in letting you see and control your friend's desktop. Just a feature, but cool nonetheless.

No one said that you were, but now that you've actually bothered to state that though plus how you "quoted" my post I'm to go out here on a rather sturdy limb and say that you are.
A personal attack? How thoughtful. I brought that up because it's been generalized a number of times in this thread that mac users have a holier-than-thou attitude, which is one of the most idiotic things I've ever heard in my life. A bunch of my friends have Macs, because we like them. I chose it over a windows computer after messing with someone else's MBP, and turns out, I liked it. I'm not trying to be artsy or hip, if anything, I think owning a mac makes me look like I'm just following a trend. I don't care though, because the joy I get from OS X more than outweighs any predisposition people might have towards me for using it.
