The Great Reformat ... now what?

  • Two Factor Authentication is now available on BeyondUnreal Forums. To configure it, visit your Profile and look for the "Two Step Verification" option on the left side. We can send codes via email (may be slower) or you can set up any TOTP Authenticator app on your phone (Authy, Google Authenticator, etc) to deliver codes. It is highly recommended that you configure this to keep your account safe.

I reformatted my hd twice in the last 2 weeks, and I dont remember needing any mother board drivers.

I reformatted, reinstalled windows, and then started installing sound card, video card, modem drivers, etc...., and I havent had any problems "yet".

The only reason I had to do the second format, is because I Installed directx 8.0, and It was screwed up for some reason...but now I have directx 8.1.

I forget what they are all called...but there is a AGP 4x/133 driver set and I`m sure others too. They are what tells the MB how to communicate with the rest of the hardware.
I know if I do a reformatt and don`t load the MB drivers....on both my machines I can`t get the video drivers to load right. Or it won`t have any resolution options or go any further then 256 colours....or the video adapter will be wrong and I can`t change it back.
Get your brand name and model # MB you have....go to their webpage and hit the dnld tab and see the drivers for your board.

Mobo drivers aren't absolutely required for most boards - the generic Windows ones can do just fine. There are a few chipsets that benefit significantly from having specific drivers, and I've heard horror stories of a few mobos that did all kinds of craziness until they were fed proper drivers.

www.drivershq.com is worth a look, if they're still around.

you NEED motherboard drivers, and 006, ATI make graphics cards, not motherboards.

mike is right, most athlon motherboards use via chipsets, in which case the via 4 in 1 pack is what you need

Again, guys, thanks for trying to help me. I just installed the VIA 4-1 drivers and noticed a slight performance boost, but it still isn't as fast as before the reformat. I think my bios needs tweaking. I press on ...

Issue 2: Possible cause: bad disk or file transfer error. Could this be from using Winrar? Time to download Winzip and see if this is the cause.

Most likely... or the file it'self is screwed from the begining..

Issue 3: Fixing the refresh rate. When I right-click on the desktop or anywhere else, the right-click menu comes up slowly. Before, it came up lickety split. Has this to do with the refresh rate or something else? Perhaps I need to "lock" it with a program. I set it to 120 but it didn't do a thing. Should I use Powerstrip? From my experience, it doesn't seem to do anything. That's all for now. I'd immensely appreciate any help I can get. Thank y'all. [/B]

try checking your system resources...and making sure that you don't have a bunch of crap in your start menu.. there are ways to make 98SE release the DLL's after you finish using a program and that will also free up your system as well.. I should be home sometime friday and will post the procedure here..

I figured out how to accelerate right-clicking ... right-click on desktop/properties/effects/then turn off Animate windows, menus and lists. Now my computar seems faster. :p I forgot. No one cares.

I don't have one
Never use a download accelator when donwloading drivers. Just don't do it. To get the extra speed the Donwload Accelerator turns off the safty checks which means unless you have a truely stable and noise free connection you're likely to get file errors. Also turn off all Antivirus software when installing drivers that really mucks everything.

Also try download the 436 patch again for UT wihtought using a downlaod accelerator and you should fix your pathing problems.
