how do you determain what it cost to run the pc? I mean, how do you know it cost $0.07 and not $0.02, or $0.1 per hour? I don't think you can tell by your bill becouse there are all kinds of things that come into play there; lights, tv, vcr/dvd, stereo(am/fm vs. cd vs. tape), microwave, stove top, oven, fridge, heat/ac-fans, clocks, etc.....
'Bout the only way I can see is to run nothing at all but one computer & monitor only for one month. That way you could break it down, kindda'. The cost veries according to supply and demand. In July it might max out at $0.07, but the rest of the year it might never go above $0.009.....
If it avarages .02 most of the year, than that's $0.48 per day, $170.88 per year.
I don't know....I'm thinking too much I guess :lol: :rolleyes:

For sh!tz I ran the numbers on .009 works out to be $76.896 per year :D :lol:
well im looking into the real cost, the $0.07 an hour was an amount given to me when I called the electric company to find out why my bill had doubled, but when i do the real math ([(Watts * Hours Used)/1000] * cost kWh) things dont add up, hmm you guys got me thinking this dude I talked to at the electric company might be high :(

hehe, What I don't get is how do they know how much power your box is useing at any givin time. 300 watt power supply vs. 500 watt power supply. 1 hard drive vs. 6 hard drives (I run 3 hard drives, CD-RW, floppy, 1 USB Hard drive).Reading email vs. Doom3 or ut2k4. Surly gaming uses more power than a ftp server. What about a 13"CTR screen vs. 21" Plasma? Heck, even if you use just 2k4 as a benchmark, playing the game must use more power than just running a server;
Server uses the CPU/RAM/HD
Playing the game uses CPU/RAM/HD/Monitor/Video Card/Sound Card/Imput Devices/Speakers-subwoofer-5.1 suround sound/headphones/mic
Laptop vs. tower...... I just think too many things come into play to know how much power a pc uses, unless you have access to a lab that can tell you how much power your box uses on any particular application, or OS. Does XPpro use more power than XPHome, Me, 98SE, 98, 95, 3.1, vs. Linux vs. Mac vs. FreeBSD vs. OS2 on the same machine? MSIE vs. Mozilla?
I don't know.....Like I said, guess I'm thinking to much.... :rolleyes: One can't say diffrent apps have diffrent CPU needs, becouse the CPU need might have more to do with power consumptiom than any other factor, or not.... :(
AAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!
Drives me to drinking!!!!! :lol: :D ;)

anyhow, back to the server stuff....I got 2k4 running on Linux, but what I need to know is how to install the ECEbonus pack.exe....Linux dosen't use .exe & I can't seem to find a zipped version. Also, after opening a 2k4 zip file (like UWMSU, or 3355 patch), do I need to install it with a command, or can I drag&drop the files?

**EDIT**

Think I got it under controll useing Loki. I'll let you know what happens. They even have a UW installer :D ;) :)

I believe they would use an average computer most likely running a normal business application, which would cover about 90% of the people who might ask the question.

I might even make a map pack and a vehical pack so people can get everything at once intead of 1 by 1....
