I just got 2K4 working on Linux (thanx Shrimp/Snipe, I installed as /root/ and it works now)....I need to install patches, packs & UW. I'll try to get it running tonight. But I think I might still have bandwith problems. I did install ftp redirect while installing Linux, so hopefully if everything goes right, you'll beable to d/l from my server at a decent speed.
I'll edit this post after eveyting is installed.

Jerdago, If my redirect is too slow, can I redirect to your ftp server for ingame downloads?

The main reason I cant do that at the moment is that my ftp is only up when someone needs a file or I need to get a file to someone, Im in cost savings mode right now for reasons outside of my control :( second reason is that if my isp found i was hosting a "public" ftp I could loose my access.
sorry :(

Thats odd. My ISP has been sucking ass lately (being fixed this week).. but anyway they know I host gaming servers, forums and an FTP and to top it off ... all on linux which they dont support .. lol. :) But then again... maybe business class cable has different polices than normal cable? I dunno. I suggest investing in business class if you host things.. much more upload which you need for that type of stuff. I got it for my company... but before I started my company a couple years ago... I was hosting things on normal cable and they did not bitch either so I dunno. Hope you dont lose your cable man!! :) What service do you get for cable anyway?

Well hosting servers is considered a no no to my ISP the servers I was hosting before were cleared by my ISP, the problem would have been making the ftp server more "public" and that is what they really dont want being done, I would not care as much if it were not for the fact that I just started working for my ISP. O and to answer your other question I have cable access through Cox Communications, I have the cheapest access for an employee, the 4 meg down 512K up.

Shame you cant host things ... because thats a pretty decent upload for cable :) Thats what I got also before business class and I could hold like 16 people in a server before it would lag out. Seeing as they are writing your paycheck... id play it safe ;) I was wondering where your server went as I checked the other day and im the ONLY server I saw up :p

The real reason my server has not been up latly is the electric cost, my ISP was cool with the game server and "private" FTP , since i started running that server 9 months ago 24/7 it has doubled my budget electric bill and now that there may be like 3 or 4 matches a week on it I felt it was time to take it down, at least until there is a need for it or I get a request, but back 9 months ago we had a good 10-20 matches a day :eek2: ;) but you will see it up once in a while, but mostly for testing one of mine or Steves maps in an online enviornment but if the traffic were to pick up for UnWheel online gaming, enough to warrent my server then I would bring the 24/7 back, but if some one needs it for an open UnWheel game that will have many players PM me ;)

You would be surprised, if your on your PC just a few hours a day its not much but if its 24/7 it adds up, say it only costs $0.07 an hour for 1 PC that’s $1.68 a day and about $50.40 a month times 9 months is $453.60, it adds up, and my server is current hungry, its a Classic Athlon slot A 950Mhz, that has two 2" fans cooling it, and I don’t know if you are familiar with that line of CPU but they power spike too. But it is a perfect processor for a server, super fast and reliable ;) . This is why I took it down, its not worth that to me for 3 games a week ;)

how do you determain what it cost to run the pc? I mean, how do you know it cost $0.07 and not $0.02, or $0.1 per hour? I don't think you can tell by your bill becouse there are all kinds of things that come into play there; lights, tv, vcr/dvd, stereo(am/fm vs. cd vs. tape), microwave, stove top, oven, fridge, heat/ac-fans, clocks, etc.....
'Bout the only way I can see is to run nothing at all but one computer & monitor only for one month. That way you could break it down, kindda'. The cost veries according to supply and demand. In July it might max out at $0.07, but the rest of the year it might never go above $0.009.....
If it avarages .02 most of the year, than that's $0.48 per day, $170.88 per year.
I don't know....I'm thinking too much I guess

For sh!tz I ran the numbers on .009 works out to be $76.896 per year :D

Ya JS .... it gets bad in the evening and early nights. Nothing I can do but hope they keep thier word and fix it this week as they said they would (its a node issue on thier part). If its still doing it next week... they will get bitched at again untill they fix it. I also refuse to pay the bill untill it works right cause im not paying for lag and packet loss.
As for the monthly cost of electricity thats pretty easy to figure (sort of). The electric company tells you the cost per kilowatt-hour... and you can calculate the number of watts your computer is using and go from there. I did it once awhile ago for one of my power systems classes but forget my results exactly (damn that beer .. lol) :p ;)
