So they give you all sorts of weapons to fight with, and you all want to jump on each others heads.

Almost five years here and I still don't understand any of you. :p

That SG boost thing won't work, because you'd be reversing your momentum...

Really, it'd only be useful (self model render) if we got some different melee involved. I dig the idea, and wanna say I thought of other reasons to do it, but can't remember now.

JK][ had this patched in. They made it so you could do 1st person saber fights, because in Dark Forces II: Jedi Knight, they had a problem with syncing up the way it animated in first person, and the way it actually hit, so when the Qengine adopted JK, they made it 3rd person saber only, until a late patch, where basically, they left your model rendered as 3rd person, but as someone here suggested, placed the POV inside your own head. I think it was handled slightly differently though, because your body didn't "animate" around you when you did flips and such. Don't know the full details, but it worked great for that game.

People may bitch about it though if they actually shoot from where there gun is held in that scenario... Like that whole shock combo problem in 2k3. Non-centered shaft, and all that non-sense.

I would love to have the model's hands show up on the gun. It would add a lot of depth. Sure, it'd be a lot of work, but it'd be well worth it.

Unfortunately, from what I've seen so far they're sticking with no hands.

I wonder how nice, weird or ugly it would be if they show the feet.
IMO, it s kind of difficult to get a nice result

I dunno, Halo2 feet look a bit goofy to me, always have. It's like there's you, floating disembodied head, and then there's some random legs and feet beneath you. Don't quite connect.

from a designer's point of view, I think that it will just give some weird or ugly results on the screen if you try to see your feet in FPS but of course, I may be wrong too...
IMO only way to see your feet, if you really want to see them (but I don t think that it is such a big deal that deserves such a thread) it is to switch to behind view :S :(

is ironing his panties!
Seeing your feet in an FPS has been done many many times before. in fact i think i remember a game, dino hunt, or dino crisis or... certainly something involving dinosaurs, wher eyou could look down and see your own cleavage.... (Possibly the most disconcerting thing i've ever done.) It had a tattoo of a heart which served as your health bar.
Also i remember Blood used to have a camera fixed to the head view where, when you died and your head was shot off, you'd get a decapitated heads eye view... which was funny especially as the enemy could play football with it.
Halo only has teh feet view because it doesn't have half as many characters that you can play. It 'd double the work for UT i'm sure.

In UT though? Well then you'd have the problem of having to animate all your first person aniamtions and third person aniamtions as the same. That is to say all third person animations would remain in such a way that in first person you could still aim your damn gun. During backflips and dodges this isn't exactly possible. At the moment the animations often involve the characters flinging his arms all over the place this couldn't be done with heads eye view. Especially as a backflip for example would have your character facing the wrong wayf or the majority of the dodge, thus disadvantaging any dodgers. (Use monkey matrix moves, or whatever it's called now, if you must have such views!)

Either that or have different playermodels for third and first person but as said before this also means more animations.

Being able to tie third person and first person animations into one so you can look down and see yourself is kinda neat. At the moment you can pick a skin ro character and not notice one difference at all, the only time you know who you are is when you get killed or use behind view. But then you also have to consider that third/first person camera views tied into one would also give advantages to people of different hieghts, etc animations would have to remain extremely generic at all times to make sure your gun remained aimed and accurate. (Or it'd look stupid)

I can see why it'd be nice but i think it could also break it. It'd be interesting if someone wrote a mod for UT2k4 that simply changed the cam view to the head of the model so we could experience what it could potentially be like?

wd shadow_dragon.....wd.. :D

makes my posts look amatuerish... still ur helping my point, with teh proper lingo involved..
doing all the dodges and jumps, and the head following ud probably end up shooting urself more than another player..and it would support teh run and bunny hop flak primary shoot tactic.. :D

If they do the feet, and body armour, it could definetly add to the immersion factor, make mellee much more effective and diverse, make your charater choice matter and so on and so forth, once they make it look brillinant, not too legs handing underneath you some how! it probaby means they'd have to have your characterics race specific, including race based ablilties, robot with a robot hud, skaarj with skaarj like hunting vison and so on.......................

ultimately if this feature ruins the gameplay, it can be done without!

you can actually see feet in UT2004 - I think you press F4 (spectating) when someone's in a Manta [switches to FPS]; look down, and you can see their feet

I also think it would make hammer-jumping and the like eaiser as you could guage your floor angle much better with a point of reference like your feet.

Now see, you're opening a can of worms right there. It will either be "OMG! I just shot my foot with the hammer and I took no damage! Where's the realism" or it would be "OMG! I'm trying to do meh uber 1337 hammer jump and my feet got in the way! Stupid Epic taking hammer jumping away!"

Then, in response, Epic releases a patch that will make the feet smaller so that they'll be out of the way. Then we'd here "OMG! My feet are so small! My mommy told me I have a big wee-wee for such a little boy, so my feet should be big too! OMG! How could Epic do this to me?!?"

see, like, in real life when you look down, you move your head so that your feet wont get in the way.....

Your feet are going to be on the ground. Your HEAD is there to move you around! So, stand in the place where you are!

Now......face North.
