Taking down the SG Servers TDM-only Server

There are enough players using my server now that it cannot keep up with the Infiltration CPU requirements, which are really high. As a result, I can no longer support both TDM and DTAS. So the TDM server is going down. There are two options available and I wanted to put up a poll to see what the community would like to see:

• DTAS-only: Very simple, the server would only run DTAS and DTAS-friendly maps
• DTAS and TDM: The server would contain both DTAS and TDM maps. The rotation would be a DTAS game followed by a TDM and game a so on. If everyone wanted one or the other, they could vote for a specific map. The Gametype would be configured per map.

What if you compromised with DTAS, and put up that new version we were talking about in the IGL forums. If the flag spawned in a third location, making everyone attack I think the TDM players would be much more happy.

Damn, sorry to hear that. Since we have to choose, I'd say go for DTAS and remove the TDM server. I'll play TDM if there's nothing else to choose from, but I'd take EAS and DTAS over TDM any day. But that's my preference.

There is no need for another EAS server...Odie already runs a good server and it is not usually full.

Well I would be disappointed to see maps like MovingDayMassacare collect dust again, unless you can find some way to combine the TDM and DTAS servers onto one instance.

The number one reason why I get bored with TDM is playing the same old maps that I've played for close to four years. It's not that all the older maps are crap, allthough maps like MVH isn't even suited for regular UT, much less Infiltration, it's the fact that I've played them to death. When you add that to fact number two, which is I've played TDM for just as long, the boredom often get overwhelming. Which results, as I said earlier, in me leaving the server.

At least with DTAS and EAS there are more options in both maps and in how the game is played and how you win a game and match. However, I can see how people who haven't been around for as long as some of us have still love TDM. For me personally, it gets boring very quickly.

But hey, there are other servers for me to play on. There are not many TDM servers, certainly not based in the US. If public opinion says TDM, let's have a TDM server in the US too. It's not like I'm going to stop playing the game if we lose a DTAS server.

Reuniting DTAS and TDM would not work IMHO. People who play dtas have such a different approach to Inf than those who play tdm that the server woud most certainly end being populated by either one of the 2 communities. As said many times before, the gaming experience depends a lot of the people you play with, and i know for sure that i'd rather play anything else than a run-and-gunnish dtas.

How about having a DTAS server for 16 players, running medium to large maps, and a smaller, say 8 player server for TDM on smaller maps?

Keg??? bandwith and a server??? this is news to me....I dont think he has the same connections as he once did.


Btw, I'd prefer DTAS....although I do like the occasional TDM game.

Well i remember him serving TTR for a while anyway.

I changed my mind (sorry, but I'm Canadian), I love TDM, but it needs to die. Playing maps that are 4 years old is losing its fun. DTAS or EAS is the new wave.

By the way shan, you really need to fix your files. DesertDisaster and Kosovo have missing textures, and Flagstaff and Dunwich have the lightning bug that isn't present offline.

I served TTR for a bit when it was released and I had my fast connection at uni.

All those map problems are with the map itself, not Shan missing files.
